LILY BRAZIER STARS AS A WOULD-BE PIONEER OF ‘MUM POP’ IN A NEW COMEDY…

WANNABE | BBC3 THURSDAY

Once a member of almost-successful girl group Variety, now the manager of upcoming trio Sweet Gyal, Maxine Hancock likes to think she’s a big deal in the music business. But when her new protégées threaten mutiny, she has to find a way of keeping herself in the limelight – by getting her old band back together.

“She’s trying to make this younger band famous, but she really wants to still be famous herself,” explains People Just Do Nothing star Lily Brazier, who co-wrote the series and stars as Maxine. “Fame is really interesting, because it’s fickle – I’m obsessed with The Big Reunion, and that thing where you’ve been famous, and then you’re just doing a normal job.”

Variety just missed out on the big time, but Maxine believes that this time around they could take the world by storm…

“She has misguided faith in herself,” chuckles Lily. “She is a monster, because she’ll just say what she thinks and she’s not scared of offending people. She’s quite a tragic character – she’s never going to be successful, and she hasn’t got the talent she thinks she has…”
