Couch POTATO
Chef and presenter Simon Rimmer picks his dream viewing…
I’m obsessed with Mum, I absolutely love it. I missed the first series, but we had two of the stars on Sunday Brunch
so I watched both series, and it’s just brilliant. It’s the best comedy since Gavin & Stacey – it’s got that similar kind of beautifully observed, quite understated humour.
I have guilty secrets on telly that I like. I’m quite obsessed with Can’t Pay? We’ll Take It
Away!, and I like Border Patrol as well. I think it’s the fact that they’re completely and utterly non-challenging – I can just sit there and stare at them…
I don’t watch a lot
of films. I have a real problem with the cinema – I’m not very good at sitting still! But I watched God’s Own Country the other week, which was fantastic – really dark and superb. I like a bit of social realism and gritty drama. I’m not a romcom fan.
Growing up, Morecambe And Wise and The Two Ronnies were two of my favourites. Top Of The Pops was always on in our house, and now I find myself saying to my kids the things that my dad used to say to me when my son puts his music on in the car – “That’s not music, it’s just noise!”
I’ve always wanted to do Countryfile. I did two little films for them quite a few years ago, and I love the show – I mention it all the time, and every now and again on Twitter I do a little plug to get myself on as a presenter! John Craven has always been a hero of mine – when he was on Sunday Brunch I was a little bit star-struck!
