Eileen & Phelan: cliff-top calamity

THE STREET’S BIGGEST STORY EXPLODES AS SHE FINALLY DISCOVERS HIS DEADLY SECRETS…

- Laura-jayne Tyler

This is the earth-shattering moment that Corrie fans have been waiting for, as Eileen finally learns that she’s married to a murderer!

Phelan’s buried secrets come back to haunt him in spectacular fashion after Gary, Tim and Seb head to the Mill site, determined to expose his wicked deeds. However, they get a lot more than they bargain for – when the corpses of Andy Carver and Vinny Ashford resurface!

Meanwhile, Eileen and Phelan are far away from the cobbles at a seaside

retreat that he’s using as a cover to make his final escape. But when Eileen gets a voicemail from Tim revealing her hubby’s grisly crimes, a terrifying confrontation ensues by the edge of a cliff…

“This news comes as an absolute shock to Eileen,” despairs actress Sue Cleaver, who plays her. “The fact that two bodies have been found and Phelan is behind the deaths is hard for her to take in. It utterly rocks her world, and she’s in a very vulnerable position since she’s completely on her own with him.”

Prior to the holiday from hell and the horror that awaits her, Eileen and Phelan are contemplating their move away. Despite her other half’s involvement in the Calcutta Street property scam, Eileen is standing by her man – on the condition that they leave their home and go elsewhere.

“When Eileen found out that Phelan had conned everyone, she was furious,” shares Sue. “She was ready to go to the police until she realised that Todd was implicated as well. Plus, Phelan insists that he made a terrible mistake, and ultimately Eileen doesn’t want to be without her husband.”

THE GREAT ESCAPE!

Phelan is forced to rethink their fresh start, though, after the Mill’s site manager blasts him for his shoddy workmanship – and tells him the cement he laid is to be dug up and reapplied!

Of course, it’s beneath the concrete that Andy and Vinny are hidden, so Phelan is forced to think fast – and fools Eileen into taking a trip away to view a potential new home by the sea. But their getaway is all so he can do a runner.

“They go to look at this cottage that is supposedly for sale, where they can talk and see if they have a future together,” explains Sue. “Eileen has made the decision that she wants to stick by him, but then it all goes horribly wrong!”

Back in Weatherfield, Seb gets wind of the fact that Phelan’s concrete is being dug up, and his gut feeling tells him that’s where his former boss must have stashed the gun that killed Luke Britton. With Gary and Tim’s help, suspicious Seb heads to the construction site in search of the damning evidence, and before long the fellas crack open the concrete themselves using sledgehammers.

Later, after the police arrive and arrest them for what looks like criminal damage, the plot takes a gruesome turn as the two bodies are found – and Gary is arrested on suspicion of murder! Will Phelan get away with his heinous crime after all?

Unsurprisingly, the evil brute doesn’t plan on sticking around to find out. He has his passport packed, and is ready to sail away into the sunset – without his adoring wife!

“They’re about to go out on this boat when Phelan snaps and accuses Eileen of crowding him,” Sue tells us. “She’s confused, as one minute they’re talking about their future together, and the next he’s saying he needs some space.

“Eileen decides she’s not giving up on Phelan so easily. So she later takes herself to the boat with a picnic…”

STORMY WATERS!

However, after Eileen sees that her hubby was intending to sail away without her, she’s furious! In the heat of the moment, clumsy Eileen drops her food hamper – complete with her car keys – into the sea, sealing

her fate and trapping her with the Street’s secret serial killer. To Phelan’s credit, though, he can’t bring himself to turn his back on his wife without ensuring she gets home safely.

“He wants to help Eileen into a taxi before he disappears, and that is Phelan’s downfall in the end – the fact that he really does have genuine feelings for her,” sighs Sue. “She tells him to leave her alone, but then Eileen gets a signal on her phone followed by a message from Tim telling her about the bodies at the Mill, and the fact that she is in serious danger.”

As the penny drops for Eileen, she attempts to cover her fear and tells Phelan to head back to the boat – before she hurries to the harbour to call Tim. But what Eileen doesn’t realise is that Phelan has followed her, setting the pair on course for what could be their final showdown…

“Phelan turns on Eileen and she is terrified,” grimaces Sue. “She realises what he is truly capable of and that he could kill her. There’s a tussle, and it’s a fight for her life.”

OVER THE EDGE!

Phelan grabs Eileen’s phone just as her desperate call to Tim goes through, and she manages to shout out her location. But Phelan then throws her mobile into the sea, and she retaliates with some tough home truths.

Phelan is incandescent with rage, and Eileen’s only hope is to threaten him with throwing the keys to his getaway boat over the cliff, thus scuppering his escape. However, while the pair struggle, the rusty harbour railing gives way behind them…

Will this be the moment that spells the end for Phelan? Or will a tragic twist see him claim Eileen as his latest victim?
