Woody back to win over Whitney

BUT CAN SHE FORGIVE HIM FOR THE WAY HE DUMPED HER?

- Gary Gillatt

Whitney is horrified to come face to face with her former fiancé Woody this week, five months after he fled to Spain with barely a word of explanation.

He claims vehemently to still be in love with Whit – but can Woody’s weasel words manage to heal her heart?

“Five months have passed since Woody did a bunk,” our Walford snitch reminds us. “And if you remember, he didn’t even have the guts to tell Whitney to her face that he was leaving. Instead he scrawled a childish note on an envelope: ‘Whit! You’ll be better off HERE! Sorry, Woody’ – and not so much as a kiss at the end of it! While Whitney would admit that her heart hadn’t exactly been in the relationship, she certainly deserved better than that.”

So when she spots her ex again this week, Whitney does her level best to avoid him – not an easy task in Albert Square, as there’s nowhere to hide! However, after Woody eventually tracks her down, he pours on the charm. He brings flowers, and declares that he’s still deeply in love with Whit and hasn’t thought about anyone else during his time managing a bar in Spain. A likely story!

No less shocked to see Woody again are his former bosses Mick and Linda, who are left wincing at his efforts to sweet-talk his way back into his ex’s life. And while Linda and Whitney have had their differences thanks to Whit’s ill-judged crush on Mick, Linda has assumed a kind of maternal interest in Whit’s life – thanks in no small part to all her own kids having left home recently.

“Linda doesn’t want Whitney to jeopardise her relationship with Halfway,” explains our spy. “As Linda sees it, Halfway may be an halfwit, but he doesn’t have a devious bone in his body and is, in his own hopeless way, a better catch than Woody. So Linda sits Whitney down to make sure her head isn’t turned by her former love.”

Meanwhile Woody, who is casting about for work, learns there’s a manager position

going at E20 – and while he may be an unreliable boyfriend, he’s no slouch when it comes to running a bar. So it looks as if he has even more reason to stick around in Walford…

What might this latest development mean for Whitney? Will she fall for Woody again, now that he’s back in her life? Or will she stay true to her fella, even though he’s currently ‘halfway’ around the world with the Army? We can only hope she’s sensible…
