Well, it’s just brilliant!” enthuses Kieron Richardson, as he reveals all about the dramatic showdown that takes place between his character Ste and killer Ryan this week.
“Ste still has feelings for this guy, but he’s also found out that he killed Amy – it’s a lot for Ste to take in!” explains the star. “So he forces Ryan to watch the video of the wedding day and relive these happy memories, trying to provoke a response.”
As the tension builds, things soon turn physical between the pair. And with Ryan’s track record, it’s clear Ste is in very real danger…
“At several moments you think, ‘One of them’s going to die!’” Kieron tells us. “Then something else happens and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, this is it!’”
The confrontation has been a long time coming, with viewers seething that Ste fell into a relationship with the man who killed the mother of his kids – and Kieron certainly sympathises with the haters!
“I think the audience were never going to get behind those two as a couple, as they’ve been in on the whole mystery,” muses the actor, who has played Ste since 2006. “The fans are just like, ‘No! We’re not having this one!’ It’s great, though. That’s what you want – viewers screaming at the TV!” With Ste’s love life having led him into calamity once again, we wondered what Kieron would like to see next for his character – should he survive his stand-off wth Ryan! “I wouldn’t mind him being in a steady relationship for a change!” he laughs. “He could get back with Harry. I would like them to be in a relationship, but a naughty relationship. So rather than a lovey-dovey happy couple, it’s a couple that are in love, yet they get into trouble all the time.”
