There’s hell to pay for Carla this week, after Michelle stumbles upon the truth about her best mate’s latest fella – it’s her estranged son Ali!
Michelle is shattered when she realises Carla is having it away with her son, who recently returned to the cobbles. Although Carla tries to explain herself, her pal is having none of it – so could Carla’s lust end up destroying her closest friendship?
“Michelle and Carla are like sisters, so this couldn’t be any worse!” groans Alison King, who plays the conflicted cougar. “From Carla’s point of view, Ali is a grownup man now – he’s fit, she’s a red-blooded girl, so she gave in while it was on offer! She tried to pull back after the repercussions of her actions sank in and she considered the fact that Michelle could find out and be hurt, but Carla really likes Ali.”
Although Michelle’s fiancé Robert had an inkling of what was going on, Michelle dismissed his suggestion that Ali fancied Carla as nonsense. However, when Michelle decides to host a big Connor family dinner and invites them both, it’s the catalyst for calamity. With the truth staring her in the face, livid Michelle sends everyone home except Carla, and demands answers. It’s a horrible moment for both women…
“Michelle is shocked and hurt,” sighs Alison. “She wants to know what’s going on between them, and whether it’s gone further. She doesn’t give Carla much chance to explain – though there’s not a lot Carla can say apart from sorry! In Michelle’s mind, that’s them done because Carla has hurt her so much.”
Carla has no comeback as she realises that this could be fatal for their relationship. And worse still, loved-up
Ali is pushing for more with Carla.
“Ali wants to take their relationship further, but all this makes Carla pull back,” Alison tells us. “There isn’t actually anything going on – they only slept together that one time, and her relationship with Michelle is more important to her than a relationship with him.”
Sadly, this isn’t the only secret being kept by Michelle’s loved ones. Carla has unearthed the truth about Michelle’s fiancé Robert’s steroid abuse, and when she sees her in the street and gets another earful, Carla spills the beans. She’s worried that Michelle could get seriously hurt by Robert – she’s already noticed bruises on her wrists that Michelle put down to the throes of passion – and has consulted junior doctor Ali about the health risks involved in steroid abuse.
“At first Michelle doesn’t believe Carla, but then she asks her how long she’s known, and Carla tells her the truth and asks her to talk to Robert,” shares Alison. “Carla doesn’t believe the bruises are as innocent as they might seem, and she’s more bothered about Michelle than beating herself up over Ali. She loves Michelle so much that she can put everything between them aside to do the right thing and tell her about Robert.”
The fitness-fanatic chef has a lot of explaining to do, and Michelle wants answers. It’s another blow to her wedding plans – and with the big day approaching, the unhappy bride-to-be has some decisions to make.
“Michelle tells Carla that she’s not invited to her wedding – it’s for friends and close family only!” grimaces Alison. “Hopefully Carla will put out her bottom lip and say ‘Sorry’ and ‘I miss you’ enough times that Michelle will forgive her. How long that might take, I don’t know. I want them to get back on track, because I would miss working with
Kym [Marsh, aka Michelle]. I really hope they won’t keep us apart for too long!”
