Pub landlady vs club manager
AS MEL CATCHES LINDA IN AN AWKWARD SPOT, THE PAIR PREPARE TO DO BATTLE…
It’s the battle of the business blondes in Albert Square this week, as Mel and Linda go head-to-head!
The tensions start to rise when Mel pops round to Phil and Sharon’s house and is surprised to find Linda, clad in a sports top and pyjama bottoms. Having sought refuge at the Mitchells’ following an embarrassing incident, Linda is caught offguard and left red-faced…
“Linda is particularly embarrassed because – as always – Mel is the epitome of glamour, while she’s been spotted at her frumpiest!” chuckles our East End informant. “These two women are each other’s main competition in the Walford business world, which only adds to the awkwardness. Mel is desperate for E20 to be a big success, and she knows the best way to do that is to tempt Linda’s regulars away from the Vic. But right here, face to face, with Linda looking like a dog’s breakfast, Mel can hardly contain her amusement – and Linda vows that she won’t be humiliated a second time!” As the pair exchange barbed comments about each other’s venues, their rivalry escalates. However, to flaunt her confidence and in the spirit of fair play, Mel invites Linda over to the club for a drink that evening. “I don’t think Mel takes Linda terribly seriously,” muses our mole. “She’s got her hands dirty in all sorts of dangerous situations in the past – she’s as cool as a cucumber – whereas Linda seems to get flustered over the tiniest little thing. As far as Mel is concerned, she’s got victory in the bag!”
Later, after Linda turns up at E20, she’s further irritated to spy former Vic employee Woody behind the bar. And her evening gets even worse when she manages to spill a drink all down her posh dress, shaming herself in front of
Mel once more.
“Poor, poor Linda!” howls our snitch. “She’s trying to look her coolest and most sophisticated, but instead she disgraces herself all over again. Even though it wasn’t Mel’s fault, Linda feels that her rival is laughing at her and wants to take every opportunity to rub her nose in it. The only way Linda will feel better about herself is if she can find a way to get her own back…”
As far as Mel is concerned, she’s got victory in the bag!”
Mel arrogantly assumes that she doesn’t have any reason to fear her accidentprone rival, whereas Linda reckons that Mel’s smugness will end up being her downfall. Whatever revenge plan she comes up with, the rest of Walford had better duck for cover – it looks as if this war is just getting started!
