Liv & Gabby are on trial

WILL THE TROUBLED TEENS ESCAPE PRISON?

- Kate White

Terrified Liv faces the consequences of spiking Lisa’s drink with ketamine this week, as she and her coconspirator Gabby stand trial.

Despite attempts by the Dingles – including Lisa – to stop the prosecution going ahead, the CPS won’t let the matter drop, and the girls must appear in court. Having both admitted their part in the nearfatal incident, they know that there will be punishment for the crime, and both families are frightened that they’ll be sent down. Worse still, at the last minute, Liv’s solicitor is replaced and everything changes – including Lisa’s plan to speak up for her.

“Lisa wanted to explain to the court that Liv’s a good girl, really,” explains Jane Cox, who plays the Dingle matriarch. “She wanted this lass to learn the lesson that she could have killed someone, but perhaps going to court is too far.”

Sadly for the Dingles, when Liv’s new brief arrives, he immediately bans Lisa from giving a witness statement – even if it is to defend his client. Meanwhile, Aaron worries as he spots that the lawyer isn’t up to speed on the details of his sister’s case – and as the court convenes, it’s tense for all concerned.

“Aaron had agreed to Lisa helping out, but the lawyer says she shouldn’t,” shares Jane. “Lisa feels so sorry for Liv now – she thinks that she’s a sad girl and was probably distracted by Gabby.”

It’s certainly true that Gabby instigated it all, but she gives a good account of herself in court. Both she and her lawyer make emotional speeches to convince the judge to be lenient with the defendants. However, things don’t go so well for Liv – she’s traumatised, and can’t find her voice when it’s time for her to speak up.

The outcome of the trial is being kept secret, though Jane says it was great to work with co-star Isobel Steele – who plays Liv – on these scenes.

“Isobel is a wonderful actor and a professional person,” she enthuses. “She pulls on your heart strings – and it’s hard not to cry when she’s crying!”
