Bob: no closer to making a choice

Tony Audenshaw admits his alter ego is oblivious to Brenda’s scheming...

- Allison Jones

While Brenda is blackmailing Laurel to stop her telling Bob she knows about his affair this week, he’s ploughing on with their wedding plans regardless. But when he fears that Brenda’s strange behaviour is down to her cancer returning, will a row between Laurel and Brenda force out the truth? It’ll come as a shock if so, admits Bob’s real-life alter ego Tony Audenshaw…

Laurel and Bob have ended it – but is Bob still committed to marrying Brenda?

Absolutely! He’s serious about it. As far as he’s concerned, the affair with Laurel is in the past, so it’s full steam ahead for the wedding. He’s worried about Brenda, though…

Has he finally noticed that she’s not been herself ?

He’s not got a clue – Brenda’s been hiding it well! But then Heath tells him about her ‘secret cupboard’, where she’s stashed the stuff she bought with Laurel’s bank card. All this random stuff tumbles out of it – hot-water bottles, bike helmets. That’s when he thinks, ‘What’s going on?’!

He assumes it’s her cancer coming back, doesn’t he?

She’s distracted and has headaches, and he wonders if she’s stolen that stuff – because she shoplifted when she had the brain tumour. He puts all these things together.

Then he sees Brenda and Laurel having a row – is he scared that the truth is out?

No! He just thinks Brenda is being out of order – she’s given Laurel’s son Arthur cash for a school trip. He goes to Laurel to apologise, and admits he thinks Brenda’s ill. That conversation leads to something else, but I can’t say what!

If Brenda and Bob split up, would you miss working with Lesley Dunlop (Brenda)?

Definitely. But we see more of each other when upsetting stuff is going on. And of course, I get to work with the fabulous Charlotte Bellamy [Laurel], too. And even though it’s terrible what Bob’s done, it’s fun having two women fighting over him!
