Shakil & Keegan are stabbed

TRAGEDY STRIKES THE KAZEMI CLAN, AS CARMEL’S YOUNGEST SON SHAKIL IS ATTACKED AND FATALLY STABBED…

- Allison Jones

Prepare for shocking scenes in Albert Square this week, as Eastenders tackles the issue of knife crime – with devastating consequences. When teenage pals Keegan and Shakil cross a violent gang, the situation spirals rapidly out of control – leaving both boys in mortal danger after the pair of them are brutally stabbed.

While Keegan is found just in time to be saved from his life-threatening injuries, it’s a different story for poor Shakil – who passes away soon after he’s rushed to hospital. And as Carmel and her eldest boy Kush collapse in grief for the loss of their beloved Shaki, the entire Walford community is shocked to the core…

“Every friend and neighbour feels Kush and Carmel’s pain,” sighs our Albert Square spy. “They can’t believe this has happened on their doorstep.

For a parent to lose a child – particularly one so young – is an agony few can bear to imagine. Their hearts go out to the Kazemis, and everyone stands united in the face of this terrible tragedy.”

It’s after Keegan steals an unattended bike belonging to a local gang member that disaster strikes. Shakil urges his mate to return it, but Keegan refuses – and when Shakil takes the bike’s padlock keys, intending to do the right thing, both lads become a target. Although landlord Mick turfs the thugs out of the Vic, violence erupts outside…

“Keegan confronts one of the gang members in the Vic’s alley,” shares our informant. “But he barely has a chance to defend himself before he’s been stabbed – and as he falls to the floor, he realises Shakil has been attacked, too. The boys are badly hurt – and no one else knows they’re there.”

Shakil manages to get up and stumble to the crowded street, where he tries and fails to alert Mick – then collapses out of sight. It’s only when Mick later makes his final checks at the Vic before going to bed that he spots Keegan. Calling for an ambulance, Mick remains by Keegan’s side – but the injured teen’s efforts to tell Mick about Shakil prove futile.

“Mick panics, and can’t understand what Keegan is trying to say,” admits our insider. “He’s also distracted by how long the ambulance is taking – so he decides to carry Keegan into his own car to get him to hospital himself. But Mick’s oblivious to the fact that Shakil is just yards away, as badly hurt as Keegan.”

The following morning, news of the horrific events starts to spread, and the locals are badly shaken. However, it’s only at this point that Shakil’s absence is realised, and the

Walford residents help police search for him. The hunt has a tragic outcome, though, as the Kazemis eventually learn that Shakil has passed away…

“Doctors do all they can, but it’s too late for Shakil,” says our sneak. “His injuries are too severe, and Carmel and Kush are told he hasn’t made it. It’s a cruel and bitter blow, and the idea they’ve lost Shaki forever is too terrible to bear.”

As word reaches Walford that the worst has happened, can the Square’s community spirit help its devastated locals through the dark days ahead?
