LOVE’S A BEACH
CAROLINE FLACK TELLS US WHY ROMANCE REALLY CAN BLOSSOM ON LOVE ISLAND…
We’re not sure there’s anyone working in TV right now with a higher level of job satisfaction than Caroline Flack – when Inside TV joins the presenter to chat about the upcoming series of Love Island, we’re left in no doubt that she’s so passionate about the show that she’d be glued to it even if she weren’t the host. She’s in good company too: last year’s series established the show as a national talking point and the finale delivered record-breaking ratings for ITV2, so we set about trying to get the goss on what’s in store for this year…
What can you tell us about this year’s contestants?
I’ve just seen another cut of them, but it changes all the time. Last year there was a last-minute swap-over, so I don’t know if this is the final sign-off! But they’re really good – they’ve cast it very well. I already feel protective of them. I’m like, “Oh, I’m going to have to look after her…”
You must be besieged by people wanting the inside scoop at this time of year…
I get loads of messages from people going, “I’ve entered Love Island and I just want to know if my application’s been received!”. I always make sure as soon as we know who’s going in, I follow them on Twitter so when they come out we can keep in touch. People from the first series still message me!
We saw you dressed up as a pilot to record the trailer for this year’s series…
Yeah, that was fun. It was a whole day of filming for that wink! I got to keep the pilot’s outfit – but I don’t know when I’m ever going to use it!
Do you think people really can find love on this show?
I think it’s more likely on a TV show than online. When you strip it back, we take their mobile phones away, they haven’t got the internet, so they’re going back to the art of conversation, which is like old-fashioned dating. And if you spend enough time with someone, maybe you’re going to love them – or maybe not!
