BUT FOR HOW LONG?
Serena is over the moon to discover a surprise guest waiting for her on the ward this week – after her girlfriend Bernie makes an unexpected return to Holby City Hospital!
The smitten couple are snogging within seconds, proving that the spark between them has most definitely not been extinguished by their long-distance relationship. However, Bernie begins to realise that she’s not Serena’s main focus any more…
“Serena’s plan was always to tie up a few loose ends in England, before heading back to live and work with Bernie in Nairobi,” our Holby source reminds us. “She stepped in to help the hospital after Hanssen took a leave of absence following the shooting – and now that Abigail has taken the reins as CEO, there is nothing stopping Serena from sticking to her original objective. Well, apart from the fact that her nephew Jason and his other half Greta are due to have a baby – and heavily rely on Serena, of course!”
Serena is soon torn between her commitment to Bernie and her other responsibilities as Greta arrives on the ward complaining of stomach pains. Bernie and Serena are in theatre together at the time, proving yet again that they really are a dream team. However, when Greta requires a consultation – and declines to be examined by Serena as she considers her to be family – reluctant Bernie has to abandon their procedure after Serena asks her to see to Greta.

at Greta, and concludes that the mum-to-be is just suffering from discomfort caused by the fact she is lactose intolerant. The baby is absolutely fine.”
Bernie’s encounter with Greta leads her to realise that Serena’s life should be with Jason and Greta, and that ultimately, she is going to lose Serena. But, after Serena insists that Bernie is her priority, Greta is suddenly rushed past them in a wheelchair suffering severe abdominal pain – as it transpires that Bernie misdiagnosed her! Will Greta and the baby both be okay? And what does the future now hold for Bernie and Serena?
