…as does her neighbour Sarah

SHE JUMPS AT THE CHANCE TO BE ALYA’S PERSONAL ASSISTANT – BUT WILL SHE REGRET HER DECISION?

- Tom Spilsbury

New Underworld boss Alya realises she’s out of her depth this week, and signs up Sarah as her PA. But with the factory owner struggling to win over her staff, Sarah’s in for a tough time from the assembled knicker stitchers!

From the moment that she became the shock beneficiary of Aidan’s will, Alya has had problems getting to grips with her new role. Realising she has an uphill struggle on her hands, she lets slip to Gary and Sarah that she thinks she’s bitten off more than she can chew.

“Sarah’s ears prick right up when she hears about Alya’s woes,” reveals our Corrie spy. “Ever since she’s returned to Weatherfield three years ago, she’s been stuck behind the bar at the Rovers Return, and she knows she could be doing a whole lot better – remember, when she was in Milan for all those years, we’re told Sarah ran a whole fashion business! So when Alya mentions she’s not really coping, Sarah spots an opportunity and hands her CV to the factory boss, hoping to be made Alya’s new PA. Keen to relieve her workload, Alya takes Sarah up on the idea!”

Not long after, Alya introduces Sarah to the factory girls as her new personal assistant. However, the girls are far from happy! They point out that if there’s a position on offer, they should all have an opportunity to apply – it’s not fair simply to give it to an outsider. Alya realises that they might have a valid point from a legal perspective – however it puts her in a tricky position now she’s already given the gig to Sarah!

“Alya has really managed to get off on the wrong foot with her employees,” sighs our mole. “She’s already faced a mass walkout when she sacked Fiz. They’ve all been working at the factory a darn sight longer than Alya’s been around, and they don’t like being taken for granted! Alya realises she’s in a pickle, and so concocts a devious plot. She spends the rest of the day treating Sarah like a slave, hoping it will put off all the other girls from wanting the job. It’s a pretty risky strategy, though – because it’s just as likely to make Sarah quit!”

With Alya already in the doghouse with her troops, is she making matters worse?

“The factory staff don’t like being taken for granted!”
