Desperate Max begs Carmel for help getting custody of baby Abi this week – but will his angry ex even give him the time of day?
It’s clear Max is willing to do anything to gain full-time care of his granddaughter, including marrying his former sister-inlaw Rainie to prove that he can provide a stable home! However, when it comes to obtaining character references to support his custody bid, scheming Max discovers that he may have burned too many bridges in the Square…
“Given that he doesn’t have one friend in Walford, finding someone to be a character reference could prove tricky for Max!” chuckles our Eastenders insider. “And Rainie isn’t that much more popular. This is a gruesome twosome that most people on the Square are keen to give a wide berth – so they have little chance of finding someone to support them!”
Max’s first target is Masood – and after assisting with little Harley, he hits up his neighbour for a reference. However, once he consults with his Aunt Mariam, Masood is forced to tell Max that he can’t help him, leaving Max back at square one.
Next on his list is Karen Taylor, who’s so desperate for money that she agrees to aid Max in return for £200. But just when Max thinks he has it in the bag, he lets slip what the reference is for – and disgusted Karen storms off, making it clear that no amount of money in the world could persuade her to help Max with this ploy!
With time running out to find someone, frantic Max turns to the worst possible person for a lifeline – his ex-girlfriend, Carmel! Given that he lied and cheated before publicly humiliating her, Carmel is understandably furious that Max has the gall to even approach her.
