This is the horrifying moment when poor Bethany ends up bound and gagged – after vengeful Kayla loses the plot and takes her hostage!
The girls have been heading for an almighty showdown ever since viewers learned that Kayla is the daughter of Sergeant Neil Clifton – the police officer who raped Bethany as she was being groomed by evil Nathan Curtis.
Sadly, Kayla has fallen for her father’s sick lies and believes that he is innocent – so after Bethany happens to turn up at her house looking for Craig, and realises who Kayla really is, it doesn’t take long for events to spiral out of control…
“Bethany is absolutely terrified – she thinks she is going to die,” insists Lucy Fallon, who plays her. “The fact that the grooming ordeal is coming back to haunt her is creepy as it is, but this is a different situation and she is very frightened.”
Initially, Kayla was hell-bent on finding evidence to prove that both Craig and Bethany had lied about her dad in court. Her plan appeared to be taking shape as she set a honey trap for Craig, but when Neil lost his appeal and was badly beaten up in prison, devastated Kayla flipped – causing her scheme to become gradually more unhinged.
“At this stage, she doesn’t care about the consequences,” reckons actress Mollie Winnard, who takes up the story from Kayla’s point of view. “Anyone who gets in her way is in danger – even Craig. She is walking on a tight-rope, pretending to be someone she’s not, so if anyone finds out who Kayla really is, she stands to lose everything.”

Determined to make Bethany pay, Kayla sets about messing with Craig’s mind and uses his OCD to her advantage. After ‘reassuring’ Craig that he doesn’t need to complete the rituals that he believes keep people safe, Kayla deliberately slams on the brakes of the car they’re travelling in to ensure that Gail and Audrey crash into the back of her.
With that, Kayla blames the accident on Craig – and suggests that it would never have happened had he continued with his rituals.
“Kayla knows that messing with Craig’s OCD is going to destroy him,” explains Mollie. “She believes that his OCD is to do with him knowing that Bethany has lied about Neil, so she hopes that he may end up turning on Bethany. I don’t think that she sets out that day thinking, ‘Let’s go crash a car,’ but she is an opportunist, and sees a chance to strike – so she just takes it.”
“Kayla’s plan is definitely working and Craig’s OCD does get worse,” adds Lucy. “He comes to Bethany and says that he’s going to knock the police force on the head, which rings alarm bells for her.”
Bethany’s suspicions grow after Kayla convinces Craig that he needs to go to hospital to be treated for his mental health. Meanwhile, Audrey discovers that Kayla’s car is registered to a Marsha Clifton, prompting her greatgranddaughter to double check the CCTV of the accident, and realise that

Kayla was lying about being forced to brake for a cat.
However, it’s when Bethany discovers that Craig has failed to turn up for his police medical test that she really starts to worry, so she sets off to Kayla’s house – clueless to the danger that she is in.
“Bethany turns up looking for Craig, and she sees a picture of Kayla and Neil,” reveals
Lucy. “What happens next isn’t pre-meditated. Kayla is obviously in a really bad state.”
“She doesn’t set out to hurt Bethany, but in a split second her plan comes crashing down around her,” chips in Mollie. “Kayla either lets Bethany walk out the door and loses everything, or she stops her from leaving. It’s a moment of sheer panic and desperation.”
After leaving Bethany tied up at her house, Kayla finds Craig at the hospital and tries to convince him that Bethany is a liar, who cheated on Nathan with other men by choice. Of course, loyal Craig won’t hear of it, and defends Bethany until Kayla loses it and produces a photo of Neil, before revealing who she really is.
While Kayla heads back to her house for one final showdown with Bethany, it seems she’s finally lost control. Is Bethany in deadly danger as Kayla takes her final revenge?
