“Sam decides to tell Samson the truth about Alice!”

- Allison Jones

Sam sets in motion a horrifying series of events this week, when he decides that the time is right for son Samson to know the upsetting truth about his mother Alice’s passing. Samson is appalled to learn that his dad helped his cancer-stricken mum to die with dignity – and after Sam’s concerned fiancée Lydia tries to calm the situation later on, the furious lad shoves her down the stairs! But as she’s rushed to hospital and doctors deliver their diagnosis, it seems that this shocking incident is set to be the least of Lydia’s worries. So with Lydia acting suspiciously, and Samson full of resentment, how much worse can Sam’s problems get?

“Sam decides to tell Samson the truth about Alice after he announces he wants to organise a fun run in her memory,” explains James Hooton, who plays Sam. “A local journalist gets in touch about an interview with the two of them, and Sam gets panicked about what might be revealed as a result of the publicity. So he ends up telling Samson everything…

“Of course, it’s very tough for Samson to hear that his dad was involved in his mum’s death, and he can’t compute what Sam has done or why – so there’s an immediate disconnect between them.”

As stunned Samson accuses Sam of murdering his mum, the fella is left in bits. Devastated to see father and son wrenched apart, Lydia intervenes to help Samson understand why Sam did what he did. But her actions have dreadful consequences.

“Lydia finds Samson, and tries to calm him down by explaining that what Sam did came from a place of love,” shares Karen Blick, aka Lydia, taking up the story. “Samson just doesn’t want to hear it, though, and goes straight to his room. Lydia tries to stop him, and Samson accidentally flings Lydia down the stairs!”

As Lydia is rushed to hospital, there are further shocks in store – when her examining doctor discovers a suspicious mole on her leg. But determined not to stress Sam or Samson while she waits for news on whether it’s cancer, she decides to keep her new worries to herself.

“The A&E doctor refers Lydia to a specialist,” reveals Karen. “But she keeps it a secret, as it’s the anniversary of Alice’s death. Lydia visits Alice’s grave with Sam and Samson to lay some flowers, and can see the impact that Alice’s loss has had. She feels as if she can’t put them through that again.”

“There are a few incidents which leave Sam and Samson wondering what’s happening with Lydia,” continues James, resuming the story. “They think they’ve done something wrong, but don’t know what.”

Will Lydia come clean about what’s going on – and if so, how will Sam and Samson deal with such worrying news?
