“Filming the wedding was so nerve-wracking!”

Matt and Takaya tell us what it was like to be a part of the first gay wedding on Australian TV…

-

Hi guys! You’ve been campaigning for this wedding for so long – how do you feel about it finally being on TV?

Takaya It’s just hugely exciting, but very nervewracking as well. There’s a little bit of anxiety, waiting to see everyone’s response. The fact that there’s so much media interest in it adds a little bit of extra pressure too. However, the feedback that we’ve been getting is so positive.

Matt I actually saw the episode for the first time yesterday, and it’s pretty good! I’m confident everyone will love it.

What was the atmosphere on set when you filmed it?

Takaya Rather hectic! Neighbours always shoots incredibly fast, and we had lots of media there on the day too. So we’d be filming a scene, coming off set to do an interview, going back on, then coming off to do another interview. It was manic, but a lot of fun.

What was it like working with Magda?

Takaya She’s not only a comic genius who gave us a total masterclass on the day we filmed with her, but also as a figurehead for the equality push, I think that she added a real gravitas to the moment. In between making all these jokes, she said to us, “In all seriousness guys, what you’re doing today will save lives”. She thanked us, and that was lovely.

What are your hopes for David and Aaron’s future together?

Matt I would love them to have kids! We wanted the marriage for ages, so hopefully if we put this request out to the universe as well, then eventually it will go on to happen!
