Rainie’s left reeling this week, when she finds out that Max has told Jack the truth about their marriage of convenience. Angry and hurt, she decides the time has come to move on from Walford – but will she lash out before doing so?
Although Rainie and Max only got hitched to help their custody battle for baby Abi, the pair have become close. So after she finds out that he still sees their relationship as merely a business proposition, it cuts her to the very core…
“The way Rainie sees it, things are going swimmingly between her and Max – and they’re starting to fall in love with each other,” reveals
Tanya Franks, who plays her. “They’ve had sex, which they both seemed to enjoy, and she thinks that they’ve made a big leap forward with their relationship. So to find out that he’s told his brother it’s still just a sham is a massive kick in the teeth for Rainie.”
Max’s heart-to-heart with his brother comes about after Jack has a row with Mel over her ex-hubby Ray. Rainie can see that Jack is down in the dumps, so invites him out for a drink with her and Max. But as she leaves the fellas alone for a bit of male-bonding time, it’s not just Jack who opens up about his romantic life – with Max admitting to his sibling that his marriage to Rainie isn’t the real deal!
“Rainie takes it pretty badly when Max tells her what he’s done,” confirms Tanya. “She does fancy Max, though more than anything she wants to be seen as fanciable herself. She’s attempting to prove a point – that she can be a good wife to Max, that she can do the right thing and that this will work out for the best.
“However, it all has to be on Rainie’s terms,” continues the actress. “If Rainie wants to cause a fuss about something, then she will. If she feels she wants attention, she’ll use Jack to get some – she’s such an attention seeker in that way.”
After seeking some advice from Stacey, Max comes grovelling back to Rainie with an apology, hoping to make things up to her. But it may already be too late, as Jack later catches Rainie packing her bags and ready to move out! Can Max persuade her to give him another chance?
“What Rainie does next will be a bit of a surprise for viewers,” teases Tanya. “She truly believes that she could finally be the woman to tame Max Branning – she thinks that if she sticks to the rules, she could hold him down. But he would have to do the same, he would have to be able to hold Rainie down as well. It’d have to be a two-way street.”
It’s not unusual for Rainie to go off at the deep end when things don’t go her way – so following Max’s betrayal, could she end up doing something that she’ll live to regret?
