…and Daniel surprises Sinead with an impromptu wedding too!

As Daniel organises a surprise ceremony, will his bride admit that she could have cancer?

- Allison Jones

There’s a beautiful moment in store for Daniel and Sinead this week, as they get set to marry in a ceremony which Daniel has secretly organised. However, Sinead is yet to tell him that she may have cancer.

So while they proceed to pledge their love in front of family and friends, can Sinead be honest with Daniel about what she’s going through?

“Daniel is completely oblivious that anything could be wrong – he’s blinded by love,” admits Rob Mallard, who plays Daniel. “Since he and Sinead got back together, everything has been going really well – too well, almost. He thinks Sinead is suffering normal pregnancy stuff like sickness and fatigue. So as far as he’s concerned, life is rosy – he just hasn’t noticed anything else happening.”

Consequently, while Daniel is busy transforming the garden on Victoria Street into a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, he has no idea that his wife-to-be is alone at the hospital, anxiously waiting for a biopsy and scan which should reveal whether or not she has cervical cancer. And the last thing she expects on returning to the cobbles is Daniel proposing that they get married right there and then…

“Because of their rocky journey to this point, Daniel is thinking, ‘Let’s do this while we can because you don’t know what might happen’,” explains Rob. “And also, because Sinead is off the wall and unconventional, it seems to make more sense to do it as a surprise rather than in the traditional, conventional sense. It’s more of a Pagan ceremony than a wedding, for which they could go to a register office to make it official. It’s not as if Kirk, who’s overseeing proceedings, has been ordained or anything!”

The admiring looks on everyone’s faces say it all as Daniel and Sinead – who dons a beautiful wedding dress – begin to say their touching vows. But the romantic proceedings could be brought to a halt should Sinead tell Daniel about her health news. What might it mean for their future together if she does?

“When Daniel and Sinead got back together, they promised there would be no secrets between them – so Daniel will feel betrayed that Sinead has kept this from him,” admits Rob. “And I think that if he was to find out she

has cancer, he’d regress massively. He’s always been used to being by himself, yet Sinead makes the world seem softer, which helps him come out and enjoy it. But this could make him close ranks again…”
