IS JOE TATE REALLY DEAD?

It’s never the end unless you’ve seen a corpse in the ground…

-

While we know that Kim will definitely be back, there’s still the question of whether we’ll see Joe Tate again. Debbie’s fiancé never made it to their wedding after an altercation with her father Cain resulted in a nasty blow to the head, which Graham confirmed had killed him. However, when Joe’s right-hand-man went to bury his friend, Joe’s hand twitched – and we don’t really know if Graham finished the job or not. Inside Soap spoke to stars Ned Porteous (Joe), Jeff Hordley (Cain) and Charley Webb (Debbie) to try to shed some light…

Firstly, Ned – what a shocking turn of events for you! How did you feel filming those last moments?

Ned It was tremendously exciting, and I just focussed on producing some really good final scenes. I didn’t have time to think about the fact that I was leaving, though, so maybe I wasn’t as prepared for that. Everyone was so lovely on my last day that it was a little emotional!

So Joe really is brown bread?

Ned Well supposedly, but it wasn’t shown – so technically you don’t know what happened for sure, and it is ambiguous! Is he dead? Perhaps, but it’s not certain. Will Graham bring him back? Who knows!

Graham never wanted to kill Joe, so could he be hiding him…?

Jeff …In a special military hospital? Charley We actually don’t know. But if he is dead, it won’t have been Cain who killed him. Joe’s either alive, or Graham shot him!

If that is the case, Jeff, how will Cain react when he finds out that Graham is playing him?

Jeff I think the writers are setting up Cain and Graham to circle one another. They’re similar beasts so it’s a great story – but as to who’d come out alive is anyone’s guess!

How do you think Debbie will feel if she finds out that Joe didn’t leave her – and that her dad may have played a part in his death?

Jeff It’ll definitely change her relationship with Cain. Maybe she could have dealt with the truth if he’d told her, but he didn’t. She might kill him!
