Sinead tells Billy her chemo secret

AS SHE LEARNS HER FRIEND STEFF IS LOSING HER BATTLE, WILL IT CHANGE SINEAD’S MIND ABOUT HER OWN TREATMENT?

- Sarah Ellis

Sinead is dealt another cruel blow this week, when her new pal Steff is rushed to hospital – and given just days to live!

Sinead befriended the fellow cancer patient at hospital, and Steff encouraged her to try alternative therapies to fight her illness, leading to Sinead secretly stopping her chemo, for fear she could harm her unborn baby. So when she learns the terrible news about her mate, will she give herself a reality check – and realise that she has to restart her treatment?

“After Sinead finds out about Steff, she goes into panic mode,” sighs Katie Mcglynn, who plays her. “She feels as if she has messed up. She starts to think she’s made the wrong decision – she’s distraught, because she thinks by trying to do the right thing, she’s made everything worse.”

In the days before her shock discovery, the pressure of keeping her chemo secret from Daniel is already weighing very heavily on Sinead…

“Sinead is still avoiding treatment because she fears for the safety of her baby – she doesn’t want her child to come to any harm,” Katie reminds us. “But Sinead feels that she must hide it from Daniel, as he’s going to think it’s a ridiculous idea. She doesn’t want to make Daniel angry or disappoint him, because he cares about her health.”

Daniel is under the impression that his wife has still been rocking up at the hospital for chemo – and after he thanks her new friend Steff for helping Sinead through this hard time, Sinead is wracked with guilt for lying to him. But despite the dire nature of their situation, there’s a touching moment for Sinead and Daniel when they head to the hospital for their latest scan – and as the dad-to-be later feels his baby kick, he’s overjoyed.

However, Sinead’s lies begin to spiral out of control after Daniel calls in at the factory, ready to join her at her latest round of chemotherapy.

“Daniel offers to go with Sinead to her appointment,” Katie tells us. “But Sinead has no intention of going to the hospital – and with her lying about her treatment, she just snaps. She feels suffocated, everyone is trying to tell her what to do.” It’s this stress that leads Sinead to finally break down and confide in vicar Billy what’s been going on. He’s stunned to hear that she’s put herself at risk for the sake of her baby.

“Sinead feels as if she’s out of options, yet she knows she can confide in Billy,” says Katie. “He’s the closet person to God, so she hopes her prayers can be answered. This is her last resort, but she can trust Billy.”

With Billy’s words still ringing in her ears, Sinead finds out the tragic news regarding her pal Steff. So, will she realise that she needs to start chemo as soon as possible? Or might Daniel end up discovering the truth and push his wife into putting her own survival ahead of their unborn baby’s?
