Jean bottles up her health worries
AS SHE TRIES TO KEEP HER HEALTH NEWS SECRET, WHO WILL SHE TURN TO?
Jean is alarmed this week, when she’s told by her doctor that she needs to come back in for some urgent tests. Although the GP is clear that it’s purely a precautionary measure, will Jean’s worst fears be confirmed?
Inside Soap readers will already know that Jean is set to be at the centre of a huge Eastenders storyline this spring, as she learns she’s suffering from ovarian cancer – and is reunited with her estranged son,
Sean. The wheels of the devastating plot are set in motion this week, as Dr Elinor Waters tells her patient that she’s concerned, and Jean should be checked out further.
“Poor Jean is something of a worrier at the best of times,” says our Walford insider. “So you can just imagine how she reacts to this! At this stage, it’s only a possibility – yet that’s hardly any comfort at all. When she returns home, Jean decides
to keep quiet about how her doctor’s appointment went, and instead does her best to carry on as normal. But will the other members of the family notice that Jean seems even more on edge than usual?”
Later, Ian attempts to make amends with Jean for his rude and obnoxious behaviour when they were dating. However, with her mind preoccupied with her health worries, Jean isn’t in the mood to forgive and forget.
“Poor Ian does rather get his head bitten off!” chuckles our mole. “He deserves it, to be fair, although Jean isn’t acting like her usual self when she gives him short shrift.
And her sudden fiery temper
Will Jean’s family see that she’s even more on edge than usual?”
is enough to arouse Shirley’s suspicions…”
Realising all is not well with Jean, Shirley decides to cheer her up, and asks her to meet her at E20 later that evening. However, sneaky Shirley doesn’t mention that they’ll be gatecrashing a hen party! That night, reluctant Jean arrives at the nightclub with baby Cherry in tow – and needless to say, she isn’t very impressed when she realises that Shirley has tricked her.
“This isn’t really Jean’s scene, particularly right now,” frowns our spy. “She’d just like a quiet evening in on her own. The last thing she wants is to be around a load of drunk women she doesn’t even know. As Jean makes a half-hearted attempt to join in, the pressure gets too much, so she snaps at Shirley and storms off!”
Realising she’s misjudged the situation, Shirley rushes out of E20 in hot pursuit, and Jean breaks down in tears. And although Jean refuses to elaborate on what’s really bothering her, Shirley realises there’s more going on than meets the eye. Will Jean be honest with her friend, or continue to keep her feelings bottled up?
