...and Simon’s trapped inside! PETER’S WORST NIGHTMARE COMES TRUE...
Peter’s dreams of sailing away from the cobbles go up in smoke this week – as his boat is destroyed in a shock fire with Simon asleep on board.
The terrifying blaze takes hold after Simon lights a hurricane lamp, and invites pals Aadi and Asha round to see the inside of the vessel. But after the twins leave and Simon extinguishes the candle holder, somebody boards the boat and knocks over the lamp – and its smouldering wick. Simon is soon surrounded by flames, and Peter arrives at the scene to discover his son in life-or-death peril.
“The fire is raging when Peter finds out that Simon is trapped inside the boat,” says our Corrie insider. “The boat was their way of bonding and dreaming about adventures together. Now it could be the end of Simon’s journey before they even weigh anchor.”
SEASICK!
Before the boat drama, Peter is already embroiled in ship shenanigans, courtesy of Abi. She’s gutted when he tells her he plans to take a sailing job in Kefalonia in a fortnight, leaving her high and dry. Abi is so hurt that she hits the bottle to cope with her pain, and has a run-in with Carla, whom she blames for keeping Peter dangling.
Shocked by the depths of Abi’s feelings and determined to make it up to her, Peter asks her to join him in Greece. But it’s a massive mistake…
“Simon can’t believe it when he hears that Abi’s going to be Peter’s shipmate, not him – and he kicks off big time,” shares our snitch. “While Peter likes Abi, Simon is his priority and he’ll throw anyone overboard to keep him happy. Simon is only pacified when Peter says the first mate role is his, and that Abi means nothing to him.
“Obviously, Peter’s words about Abi wouldn’t be so harsh under normal circumstances – unfortunately, though, Seb overhears and is in a quandary about whether to tell his mum.”
FIRED UP!
Soon after, Abi and Peter’s romance implodes because of Simon’s reaction. Furious about being messed about,
Abi heads off in order to drown her sorrows, despite Peter imploring her to find a healthier way to cope. She’s nowhere to be seen when the fire breaks out, and Peter’s grand sailing plans go under for good.
While Coronation Street bosses are remaining tightlipped on poor Simon’s fate, the next day – as the true horror of what happened grips Peter – he’s on the warpath. The fella is determined to pin down Abi, who he believes started the fire as an act of revenge for his actions.
“Abi is incredulous that he would accuse her of such an evil act, and furiously denies having anything to do with it,” shares our insider. “As Peter muses over her denial, he realises the only potential evidence he has would be CCTV footage from the factory – so he asks Carla to help
him find the proof. By this point, Peter is desperate for answers and to get justice for Simon – so it’s a big shock to discover that the footage of the night in question has somehow been deleted!”
WALK THE PLANK!
Peter knows immediately that something fishy is going on when Sarah reveals the CCTV is gone, and points the finger at Carla. Having worked as part of the senior management at Underworld, he’s well aware of how the CCTV works at the factory, and who has access to it. So as he finally catches up with Carla at Roy’s flat, he demands some answers…
“Having already accused one of the women in his life of arson, he points the finger at the other one!” despairs our sneak. “Carla seems shifty, though, and Peter has every reason to wonder what the hell is going on. However, surely she wouldn’t torch the boat she bought for him, especially given the lingering love that’s between them? This has really taken the wind out of his sails.”
As Carla fiercely rejects the accusation of being involved, Peter is forced to back down and keep looking for the arsonist. He’s determined to find out who put him and Simon through this ordeal, and ensure they go down for it. But is Peter right to dig for answers from Carla, or should he abandon ship and give up his search?
