Shona is kidnapped by her evil son

CLAYTON KIDNAPS HIS MUM AND IS READY TO KILL IF HE DOESN’T GET WHAT HE WANTS…

- Kate White

There’s terror for Shona this week, as her jailed son Clayton escapes and takes his mum hostage, vowing to kill her if he doesn’t get what he wants.

Chaos ensues at Clayton’s dad’s funeral, where Shona watches in horror as dodgy pal Macca and one of the undertakers attack the officers holding her boy. David can’t comprehend it when he hears that Kylie’s killer is free, and fears for his family’s safety. But worse is ahead as Clayton kidnaps Shona and threatens her life.

“David knows and believes that Clayton is capable of killing,” warns Jack P Shepherd, who plays the distraught widower. “He rushes to Shona’s aid, where the police have this derelict building surrounded. David’s terrified

– he fears history is repeating itself.”

The nightmare unfolds as Shona and good friend Billy gather with other mourners at her ex’s graveside, and witness Macca and Clayton stage his escape. When word reaches David, he’s convinced that Clayton will head to Weatherfield to try to get to Max and Lily, so starts frantically packing.

Shona’s stunned as she arrives home and, while David is naturally relieved that she’s back safely, he loses his temper when his girlfriend admits that she’s

worried about Clayton and what will happen to him on the run.

“David loses it!” admits Jack. “He’s scared for his family and isn’t taking any chances, so they’re going to go to live at Nick’s. David can’t believe that Shona’s more worried about her son who’s on the run than the family she has now.”

Trapped in an impossible situation, Shona promises that if she can help the police to find Clayton, she will. However, when David discovers the shocking truth about her involvement with helping him smuggle drugs into prison, his trust in his partner is totally shattered.

“David’s not happy that she brought all this to their door, and he begins to wonder if they can carry on,” explains Jack. “He starts to think that perhaps Shona isn’t the person he thought she was, and maybe there isn’t a future for them if she’s always going to side with Clayton.”

Things take an even more dramatic turn, however, when Shona gets into her car, only to be confronted by Clayton – who orders her to follow his instructions…

She takes off to his hideaway with money and food, and begs him to reconsider this madness. But her words fall on deaf ears, as Clayton makes a dash with the cash, only to discover the place is surrounded by police. Realising his time is up, Clayton uses the one bargaining chip he has left – his mum – and takes Shona hostage. “When the police tell David what’s happened, he puts their arguments aside,” explains

Jack. “He realises just how strongly he feels for Shona.”

There’s a lot of drama to come for the couple after this big week, and Jack reckons viewers will appreciate how much of David’s past comes into play.

“It’s good when Corrie delves back into the history of the show and draws on something that’s still fresh in the audience’s mind,” he shares. “The fact that David’s girlfriend is the mother of the man who murdered his wife makes it easy to touch back on, find the emotion, and see how both of them are still affected by what happened…”
