Callum receives some tragic news

There’s devastating news for Callum this week, when he discovers a close friend from his Army days has died – but his reaction has Whitney asking some difficult questions…
He’s floored as his friend Chris’ sister arrives in Walford to tell him that her brother has died, and to invite him to attend the memorial service.
Whitney has no idea who the woman is, so when she spots Callum in an intense and emotional exchange with Chris’ sister, she jumps to conclusions. As she asks him outright if he’s having an affair a few days later, Callum is stunned. However, it’s his decision to
keep the whole thing quiet that has prompted her suspicion.
“What’s worrying is that Callum didn’t tell Whitney that Chris had died and that’s why he’s so upset,” says our Walford insider. “It’s a strange thing to keep to yourself, particularly when you’d need the support of your significant other more than ever. Not only should Callum have told Whit about Chris, but he could have asked her to come to the service with him. It’s bizarre that he tells her nothing.”
After digesting the tragic news alone, Callum leaves work early and goes to the memorial service without telling anyone. It’s clear that he hadn’t originally intended to go at all, but something compels him to attend at the last minute. It’s a painful, traumatic experience, and with his emotions running high, distraught Callum rushes back to Walford to gather his thoughts. That’s where he bumps into worried Whitney, who wants to know what on earth is going on – and asks him if he’s cheating on her.
“Whitney knows something is wrong, and having seen him with Chris’ sister, she thinks that Callum has been seeing another woman,” whispers our source. “Of course, nothing could be less likely, but it takes

him completely by surprise. Whether she’ll admit it or not, Whit’s feeling the emotional distance between them and, in her heart of hearts, she knows something isn’t right. So, when Callum finally explains about Chris, it’s almost a sense of relief for Whitney to know what’s behind this behaviour.”
Now she knows what’s going on, kind-hearted Whit gives Callum all her love and support, hoping she can help him cope with the tragedy. It’s evident that Chris meant an awful lot to Callum, so the grief is incredibly painful for him to deal with. Realising he needs to pay his respects again, Callum heads back to the memorial so he can honour his fallen friend one more time.
