Bobby’s brave move!

HE SHOCKS HIS DAD AND HIS NAN WITH HIS ANNOUNCEMENT…

There’s a clear and serious breakdown in communication between father and son…”

Bobby Beale finally finds some friends in Walford this week, when he joins the Ahmed family to celebrate Eid with them. However, he then throws his own clan a curveball, when he tells them that he’s decided to become a Muslim!

The 16-year-old lad, who only recently returned to the

Square after serving time for killing his sister Lucy, has found it difficult to readjust to life back with his family. But after bonding with Iqra Ahmed, and finding out a little about Islam, Bobby has now decided to observe its teachings.

“Perhaps this is exactly the focus that Bobby needs in his life right now,” muses our

Eastenders insider. “He’s finding it hard to cope with life at the Beale house, where there are all these reminders of Lucy. So when the Ahmeds invite him to join them for their Eid celebrations, he’s cautious, but excited about joining in. He’s also forming quite a bond with Iqra – perhaps she’s filling that big sister role for him?”

However, when Bobby returns home and informs his father that he’s decided to fully convert to Islam, Ian finds it difficult to process what his son is saying. As usual, Ian reacts badly, although Kathy scolds him and suggests that the family talks about Bobby’s decision over dinner.

Ian takes the advice on board and pulls out all the stops – and promises to hear what Bobby has to say. Sadly, however, despite Ian’s best efforts, Bobby avoids coming home for dinner, and instead decides to stay at work.

“There’s a clear and serious breakdown in communication between father and son,” sighs our source. “And frankly, it’s not much better between grandma and grandson either. Bobby just isn’t interested in bonding with either Ian or Kathy – especially when it seems that they only want

to tell him what he should be doing with his life. It appears that Iqra might be the only person who can get through to him…”

After staying in the restaurant all night to avoid coming home, Bobby spots Max and Ruby together. After Ruby has headed off on her own, Bobby seizes the opportunity to question Max about Lucy, asking his neighbour if he ever actually loved his sister at all.

“Max doesn’t know how on earth to answer this,” admits our mole. “His affair with Lucy was just a fling, and the truth is he saw her as a casual hook-up – he only wanted her for sex. To be fair,

Max wasn’t to know quite how messed up Lucy really was, or that she’d be dead within weeks. Even so, what can he possibly say to Bobby?”
