Run away with me, Eileen!
WILL EILEEN THROW CAUTION TO THE WIND AND START A NEW LIFE WITH JAN?
There’s a big shock in store for Eileen this week, when Jan returns – and begs her to move away with him! The last time Eileen saw Jan, he was being carted off by the cops after getting arrested for his part in the people-trafficking scam. So, when he breaks into her house and tells Eileen that he’s been working for the police, the poor woman doesn’t know what to think…
“Eileen’s so shocked and angry,” explains Sue Cleaver, who plays her. “When Jan starts telling her that he was working undercover for the police, she’s having none of it – it sounds so far-fetched. He says he loves her, but she has
had her fingers burned too many times, and she really can’t believe anything he says.”
Eileen has been absolutely heartbroken since Jan’s arrest, thinking that once again she’s fallen for a complete wrong’un. Worse still, following her own involvement in bringing down wicked Rachel and Nikolai – who were behind the modernday slavery ring – Eileen has been warned to watch her back, in case there are any terrible repercussions.
It’s no wonder she doesn’t believe Jan’s story. However, when lawyer Paula confirms that he’s telling the truth,
Eileen has a lot to think about.
“Speaking to Paula does change things for her,” admits Sue. “Paula comments that Jan must really love Eileen to break his cover to see her.
“Eileen just wants to be happy,” she adds. “Jan has made a huge gesture by putting himself at risk to come and speak to her, which is bound to make her think long and hard about being with him.”
However, when Jan drops the bombshell that he wants Eileen to move to Amsterdam with him, she’s stunned! Will she really give up her life in Weatherfield to go on the run?
Jan tells Eileen he was working undercover for the police…”
“Eileen has her friends, yet she wants a partner,” Sue tells us. “She still feels as though some people on the Street blame her for what her ex-husband Pat Phelan did, and both her boys have flown the nest now. She wants someone to look after her and make her feel special, and Jan could be that person.”
As Eileen confides in Seb about Jan’s proposal, the pair are unaware that they’re being watched from across the street – by none other than dodgy Rachel! So could Eileen, Seb and Jan all be in serious trouble if Rachel catches up with them?
“Eileen knows Jan is caught up in a dangerous situation,” admits Sue. “But it is so far removed from her everyday life that she can’t appreciate how much of a murky world it is, and how high the stakes are.
“Seb says he thinks they’re being watched, and that there has been a strange car in the street,” she adds. “Eileen doesn’t want to put them both at risk, and tells Jan she can’t go with him. Yet she doesn’t know they’ve been followed, and it might be too late…”
So as Eileen and Jan say a heartbreaking goodbye, will this be the last time they ever see each other?
