Doctors Zara feels jealous

HAVING DISCOVERED THAT BECKY IS DANIEL’S NEW WOMAN, ZARA IS QUICK TO MAKE HER PAY…

- Allison Jones

Doctors is back with a bang in the wake of its summer sojourn this week, as Zara declares war with Becky over her new romance with Daniel.

Horrified to have realised that her estranged husband has already moved on with none other than The Mill’s own practice manager, fuming Zara is incapable of keeping her emotions under control. And her initial pledge to keep a dignified counsel ends up

well and truly out of the window when she invites poor Becky to a seemingly innocent girls’ night out – as Elisabeth Dermot Walsh, who plays Zara, reveals…

So tell us, Elisabeth – just what level of flabbergasted is Zara to know that Becky is Daniel’s new flame?

It’s younger, taller, thinner, browner more beautiful Becky! How could she not have seen that, right under her nose? Right there in her face, and that’s what’s so awful. She’s seen the text messages between them on Daniel’s phone, and they’re all so lovey-dovey, as well – so it already sounds like so much more than just a bonk! She feels really stupid.

Would the situation be less painful for Zara if it was a woman she didn’t know?

It’s definitely worse that she does know her. Zara’s been really nice to Becky – she’s been sisterly and collegiate and welcoming. Which means the fall is even greater.

Was she ready for Daniel to move on so soon?

Well, Zara would like Daniel to stay single and pining forever, obviously, and never find happiness without her! Even if she finds someone ravishing and new for herself.

So what is Zara’s immediate plan, now that she has discovered Daniel and Becky are in a relationship?

I’m smiling broadly as you ask that question! We’ll see that Zara has moved house over the summer, and she seems to be trying really hard to be grown up about

Zara tries not to be vengeful – until certain things push her buttons!”

this situation, not be the vengeful girl we know from the past. Until certain things happen that push her oldfashioned Zara buttons…

And a plan of revenge forms in her mind?

There’s no stopping Zara at this point, she’s like an Exocet missile! We do think for a bit that Zara might stick to being a grown up, but that’s boring. And then she sees Daniel comforting Becky after a bad day at work. It’s all very loving between them, and worse than if she saw them snogging. So Zara thinks, that’s it!

That’s when she invites Becky out for drinks?

Yes – and Becky’s very reluctant to agree, of course. But Zara is an unstoppable force and steamrollers her into it. At the beginning of the evening, Zara’s being quite nice – but then she turns on Becky as only Zara can…

Oh no, poor Becky must be left speechless!

Really, Zara doesn’t have a leg to stand on – Becky’s single, Daniel’s single, what business is it of Zara’s? And yet, somehow, she manages to make it seem as if it’s all Becky’s fault. I agree that Daniel deserves worse, but that’s not how Zara operates!

The three of them still have to work together, though – so where on earth do they go from here?

Well, I can’t give too much away, but it’s going to get much worse for Zara. And things really aren’t going to work out for her the way she might be intending…
