Mitchell is drawn to Anita Tinkle
HIS FEELINGS FOR SCOTT GROW STRONGER…
Mitchell has always appeared to be head-over-heels for Cleo, but with his feelings for Scott deepening this week, will the pair start a steamy affair?
After Scott rocks up to the Mcqueen house in drag in an attempt to cheer up downtrodden Cleo, Mitchell is lost for words – and unable to hide his attraction towards Scott’s alter ego, Anita Tinkle…
“When Mitchell sees Anita, he acts like a little schoolboy,” grins Imran Adams, who plays Mitchell. “He doesn’t know what he’s doing! Mitchell’s someone who’s used to being a confident guy – he’s not given to being flustered.”
And to add to Mitchell’s confusion, he soon finds out a lot more about Cleo’s colourful past. But will the revelation push him closer to Scott?
“Mitchell’s definitely shocked,” explains Imran. “But he has a lot of empathy and compassion for Cleo because he genuinely loves her – she’s unlike any other girl he’s been with, and he has a lot of respect for her. So when he finds out about her mental situation and her exes, Mitchell just wants to help her.”
Even so, Mitchell decides to spend more time with Scott – and it’s clear that he’s growing more and more comfortable in their relationship…
“Mitchell does enjoy spending time with Scott,” admits Imran. “But it’s when Scott’s dressed up as Anita that he finds a lot of internal conflict. Sometimes you can see Mitchell giving Anita the side-eye – he’s really trying to battle feelings that he can’t explain.”
Later, Scott goes to the Deveraux household for a family lunch. However, it ends on a sour note when Walter reveals where he stands on drag acts. Will Mitchell stick up for Scott – or will Walter’s strict stance lead Mitchell to further suppress his true feelings?
“Walter airs his disgust for Scott’s drag act,” Imran tells us. “And Mitchell doesn’t react as he should, since he’s battling all these feelings. He’s not brave and he doesn’t really defend Scott. Mitchell really doesn’t want to upset his grandad, because Walter means a lot to him. Without Walter, Mitchell wouldn’t be where he is now, in terms of his career and his happiness – he feels indebted to his grandad.”
Given that Nadine Mulkerrin – aka Cleo – is soon to exit the show on maternity leave, we can’t help but wonder if her departure will have anything to do with Mitchell coming clean about his sexuality…
“I think people will be quite surprised about how Cleo departs,” teases Imran. “She’s such a beloved character – and everyone should expect her to leave with a bang!”
