Hope causes Fiz & Ty to worry
HOPE IS IN DANGER WHEN THE FACTORY CATCHES ABLAZE…
CORONATION STREET | ITV MONDAY
Terrified Fiz and Tyrone face every parent’s worst nightmare this week, when their daughter Hope is caught up in a fire at the factory!
It all kicks off when Hope goes missing during a row at home, and the frantic couple launch a search party for her. It turns out that Hope is in Underworld, surrounded by burning boxes, and has to be dragged to safety by heroic Dr Ali. But when the police arrive to take Hope’s statement, it looks as if Fiz and Ty’s troubles are far from over…
“Fiz knows that Hope’s behaviour hasn’t improved in the past nine months they’ve been away, and has an inkling that there’s more to find out about the starting of the fire,” explains Jennie Mcalpine, who has just returned to the role of Fiz, following maternity leave. “Tyrone becomes a bit suspicious of Hope – and
Fiz almost exhausts herself emotionally by reassuring those closest to her that her daughter isn’t capable of anything like this. It then becomes apparent that Hope might be getting worse.”
The police interview Hope, who tells them she saw two lads running away from the factory. Tyrone soon realises the little girl is telling a pack of lies. Worried, Fiz, Evelyn and Tyrone discuss what they need to do next, but there isn’t a consensus on how to manage Hope. In fact, Fiz declares that the only option is to home-school her daughter until there’s a place at Bessie Street primary, leading Tyrone to think she’s mad!
“It causes a lot of tension, especially as Evelyn gets involved and gives her opinions – to the annoyance of Fiz,” shares Jennie. “Very quickly, Fiz realises that nobody else can look after Hope, so she decides to take that upon herself and finds it very hard. Hope was clearly not a good pupil at school, and she’s certainly not going to be a good pupil at home.”
Interestingly, Fiz makes a secret phone call later in the week, behind Tyrone’s back. Who is the mystery participant in her private conversation?
“As soon as Tyrone walks in, we see Fiz hang up,” teases Jennie. “Then, he later catches her saying, ‘I miss you’ down the phone – which is obviously very thoughtprovoking for the audience! It’s not necessarily what people might think, though…”
