“Sinead always thought the cancer come back”

- Kate White

Beautiful bride Sinead surprises true love Daniel with a wedding this week – but her romantic dreams are shattered when she finds a lump in her neck just hours before she walks down the aisle.

The horrible discovery blights this happiest of days, and the young couple are forced to face their fears that Sinead’s cancer has returned – as they promise each other they’ll be together ‘until death do us part’…

“When she discovers the lump, it’s as if Sinead has been shot – everything stops,” explains Katie Mcglynn, who plays the brave mum. “It’s the worst feeling in the world, because she knows what that means. I think Sinead was always anticipating it and that makes it worse. She always thought it was going to come back, and her suspicions were right. Beth tries to calm her down about what it could be, but Sinead instantly knows it’s the cancer.

Her whole world just falls apart.”

SURPRISE WEDDING!

The tragedy is even more heartfelt given how Sinead had been planning to have the most romantic day ever – by shocking doting Daniel with a surprise wedding…

“Sinead’s very excited on the wedding day,” grins Katie. “From the moment she wakes up, she feels elated – it’s the happiest day of her life.

Sinead is so in love with Daniel and everything is perfect in her eyes. She just wants to have a happy day with her husband.”

Sadly, as Daniel excitedly rushes off to get changed for the wedding and Beth starts doing Sinead’s hair, she discovers the lump. The horror shakes Sinead to the core, but she nevertheless decides to go ahead with the wedding. However, when she tells Daniel, he’s left utterly distraught.

“Daniel wants to go straight to the hospital to get it checked out straight away,” explains Katie. “So in that moment he wants to forget all about the wedding. But Sinead still wants to feel the romance of the day. He’s instantly upset – he’s in shock, and his world has come crashing down too. It’s so sad. At the beginning of the episode you can see that they’re both so happy, and this is the worst news they could possibly have. They’re both utterly devastated.”

’TIL DEATH DO US PART?

As family and friends give the couple a day to remember, it’s a bittersweet time.

“Daniel and Sinead are going through the motions,” says Katie. “They are trying to enjoy it, but they are both really scared, and don’t know what the future holds.”

The next day, Sinead has a scan and when the hospital rings to tell her she needs to come in immediately, the newlyweds fear that it’s grave news. The consultant gently tells Sinead that the cancer has spread to her liver and lymph nodes, and she has mere months left to live. The revelation leaves Sinead and Daniel completely destroyed.

“I think they’re both just broken,” shares Katie. “We tried to play it with as much realism as we could. They’re both in disbelief. Sinead doesn’t understand – she just wants to be a mum to Bertie – and she wants to know how long she has left. They’re both completely demolished, and in shock, and all the emotion comes pouring out. Sinead can’t keep it in.”

After everything they’ve already been through, this news feels as though it’s the cruellest blow to Sinead and Daniel, who should be planning years together with their beautiful son.

How will they cope with the difficult months ahead?
