Dr Ali is discovered unconscious

RYAN FINDS HIS ADDICT BROTHER CONVULSING...

- Kate White

Dr Ali’s painkiller addiction pushes him over the edge this week – as he collapses on the floor and goes into convulsions.

The desperate doc can’t get hold of the medication that he’s been taking, and his body goes into withdrawal. Luckily, brother Ryan arrives just in time and calls an ambulance – however, when Ali comes around, he’s horrified that this could cost him his career.

“Everything has come to a head with Ali, and he’s in a dire situation,” warns our Corrie spy. “For months, he’s been trying to cope with his guilt and pain after killing Cormac Truman by self-medicating, and now he’s hooked on the painkillers.

Without taking the pills, he can’t function, and his body is unable to take the stress.”

Girlfriend Maria bears the brunt of Ali’s frustrations earlier in the week, when his painkiller dealer is taken into custody and Ali can’t acquire his meds. She has no idea about what’s going on, so as she and Ali go for a romantic night at a hotel and her other half quickly falls asleep, Maria is confused – and matters are made worse when Ali loses his temper with her.

In the grip of withdrawal, Ali tries to mask his despair while heading to the Weatherfield Medical Centre to attempt to get a prescription. But former colleague Dr Gaddas realises what’s going on, and refuses his request for painkillers. The medic tells shamed Ali that he needs to get help to deal with

his addictions – however, Ali just can’t admit the truth.

Ali doesn’t know what to do, but his collapse sparks a chain of events that changes his life…

“Ryan calls an ambulance, yet when Ali sends the paramedics away, he has to come clean to his brother,” shares our sneak. “Ryan’s devastated for Ali and out of his depth. They end up turning to Robert, who reckons the only way forward is to put Ali through cold turkey, with them caring for him during the process. But it will be a terrible thing to watch, knowing the misery Ali will go through.”

Robert and Ryan now know that the incident in which Ali killed Cormac has pushed the doc to use medication to quash his feelings. The addiction has to be broken and going cold turkey is one way to help Ali get clean. But will Robert and Ryan live to regret taking this on?
