Daniel tries to give Jean support
AFTER UNDERGOING HER CRUCIAL OP, FRAGILE JEAN IS LEFT SHOCKED BY SOME TERRIBLE NEWS...
There’s another nervous wait for Jean this week, as she prepares for the latest stage of her cancer treatment, undergoing surgery to remove as much of her tumour as possible.
It’s a major milestone for Jean, who has already endured weeks of gruelling treatment – so of course she’s struggling to steel herself. However, just as she’s relying on her family and new friend Daniel to help her through, some terrible news knocks her for six...
“Jean’s been on a long road, and must be emotionally as well as physically exhausted,” says our Albert Square insider. “She’s determined to beat this cancer, but there’s a way to go still. Going under the knife is another nerve-wracking prospect, yet Jean is bracing herself as best she can…”
Unfortunately, however,
Jean is feeling stifled by the attentions of her nearest and dearest. Understandably, those who care about her are doing their best – but this constant attention is weighing heavily on Jean. Rather than request some space, though, she goes to rather drastic measures in the hope of getting some peace.
“She tells everyone her op’s been cancelled!” reveals our sneak. “That’s how desperate she is for everybody to back off. But luckily her wily pal – and fellow patient – Daniel is wise to her game, so volunteers his services instead.”
While Jean agrees to Daniel’s thoughtful offer, his attempts to lift her spirits end up proving fruitless, and she wastes no time in questioning why he’s not himself. Daniel brushes off her concern, which does little to satisfy Jean. But it’s shortly after their talk that she’s distracted by the arrival of
Kat, who – despite everything – Jean is relieved and grateful to have by her side.
“Kat knows how frightened Jean really is,” shares our mole. “She can be very wise in situations like these, and she’s still there waiting when Jean returns from surgery – and thankfully, she’s soon feeling much happier again…”
It’s Kat managing to get runaway Stacey on the phone that puts a smile back on Jean’s face. Hearing her daughter’s voice is just the tonic she needs, and there’s relief all round as Stacey comforts her mum. Once Daniel arrives, however,
Kat takes back the phone, as he readies himself to reveal to Jean just what’s
really been playing on his mind. Jean’s devastated when he tells her his cancer has spread – the last thing she needed to hear before her operation, but something Daniel knows he can’t keep from her now it’s over.
As she absorbs the sad news, can fragile Jean find the strength to boost her friend’s morale – and remain focussed on her own uncertain future at the same time?
