Cheating Mercedes receives the mother of all shocks this week when she discovers she’s expecting a baby – and she has no idea who the father is!
Having recently cheated on her husband Sylver with bad boy Liam, Mercedes knows that either one of the men could be the babydaddy. So with that in mind, will she decide to go ahead with the pregnancy?
“Right now, this is the worst thing that could happen to Mercedes!” declares Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays her. “She would love the idea of having Sylver’s baby, but having Liam’s child would mean that she has to come clean to Sylver about the affair. That for her is just like Doomsday.”
Given the tricky predicament she’s in, Mercedes is reluctant to confide in anyone about her pregnancy – however, she does turn to her Nana for advice. With Nana’s support, Mercedes heads to the hospital to talk through her options, and is stunned to bump into fellow villager Brooke while there.
“Mercedes is shocked to see someone she knows at the hospital,” Jennifer tells us. “She wanted to keep her pregnancy totally between her and Nana, as she’s the only other person who knows. But when Mercedes realises that Brooke needs her, she’s quite selfless and puts her own feelings to one side. She gives Brooke the attention she needs to make the right decision.
“It’s a gorgeous scene, and I’m really looking forward to watching it on screen,” admits Jennifer. “I don’t think that we see enough of Mercedes being vulnerable and real.”
As Mercedes attempts to persuade Brooke to tell Nancy the truth about her pregnancy, could their heart-to-heart give her food for thought about her own baby situation? Jen reckons that revealing all to her husband is the only way forward for Mercedes.
“My advice to her is always just to be honest,” shares the star. “She needs to tell Sylver the truth – she’s messed up big
time, and if she keeps covering it up with more lies, it’s just going to make a messy, horrible situation even worse.”
And it’s not just Jennifer who’s disapproving of her character’s outrageous behaviour – she tells us that the fans aren’t on board with what Mercedes is doing, either.
“They don’t like Mercedes being this way at all – they don’t understand why she’s doing this to Sylver,” she admits. “He’s the perfect man, he treats her like a princess – but Mercedes just can’t help herself. I don’t think people like her much at the minute!”
