JAMIE SIVES AND MARK BONNAR STAR IN A DARKLY COMIC DRAMA…

-

After debuting on BBC Scotland last week as the channel’s first-ever original drama commission, four-part thriller Guilt gets a network airing on BBC2 this week. Mark Bonnar and Jamie Sives are incompatible brothers Max and Jake, who accidentally knock down and kill an old man while driving home from a wedding. As Jake was uninsured, the pair make an impulsive decision to cover up their crime – but when the man’s neighbours get suspicious, the brothers’ lies spiral out of control. We caught up with Jamie and Mark during a break in filming to find out more…

What can you tell us about your characters?

Mark Max is a commercial lawyer who set up his own practice and, as far as we see, has excelled in it. But you find out one way or another that not all is as it seems – he’s in more trouble than initially knocking over a bloke and killing him. Jamie Jake is more wistful and sensitive; He’s into music and has a record store. He harbours resentment towards Max for certain things, so they don’t really have a relationship – until this happens.

How does each react to the accident and its aftermath?

Jamie Jake’s not a very good driver – he’s been forced into it because Max has been on the Champagne. Max uses Jake to do his lackey work – but then he starts to grow a pair, if you like, and the tables turn… Mark What’s great about the script is that Max makes a good job of every single leak that appears in a sinking boat – but as soon as he patches one up, another appears!

You two actually know each other from way back…

Mark We know each other from school in Leith! We had different peer groups, but as we lived near to each other, we’d often find ourselves walking to school together. Jamie When school ended we went our separate ways, so I didn’t see Mark until 15 years ago, when we bumped into each other at a casting. We’ve been in touch, but have never worked together before. It’s surreal, when I think back to us going to school, that now we’re doing a BBC drama together!
