Ali takes his eye off the ball with poorly Emma – prompting her father Steve to accuse Ali of medical negligence…
“This is Ali’s worst nightmare,” sighs our Corrie source. “He’s chosen to battle his drug problem on his own, to prevent the hospital from finding out and firing him. So when Steve throws accusations around following what happens with Emma, it’s the last thing Ali needs. What’s to stop him from feeling tempted by pills again, if he has nothing to recover for?”
The drama unfolds as Maria and Gary continue to grow closer, and Bethany clocks the spark between them. She encourages Maria to go for it with Gary – and when the pair flirt at Tyrone’s Halloween party, Maria realises she should move on after being dumped by Ali.
Meanwhile, Toyah urges Ali to be honest with Maria and tell her how he really feels. But once Maria agrees to lunch with Gary, has Ali blown it?
Later in the week, Maria asks her former beau to look at Emma after she complains of a pain in her side. However, Ali loses focus upon hearing about Maria and Gary growing closer, and quickly disregards Emma’s symptoms as food poisoning. She has no reason to distrust his opinion, of course, and takes herself to bed with the hope of sleeping it off.
However, in a horrifying turn of events, Maria and Gary later find Emma unconscious on the floor at home, and immediately call an ambulance. At hospital, they learn that Emma has a
ruptured appendix and will need an emergency operation – which enrages Steve when he discovers that Ali flippantly dismissed a life-threatening condition as food poisoning.
As furious Steve pins the beleaguered doctor up against the wall and starts shouting the odds, is it the end of the line where Ali’s medical career is concerned?
