Gemma goes into labour while stuck inside a cable car!

SOAP’S FIRST EVER SET OF QUADS MAKE THEIR ARRIVAL IN THE MOST SENSATIONAL WAY POSSIBLE…

-

Corrie viewers should brace themselves for what is potentially soap’s most dramatic birth ever, as Gemma finally goes into labour with her quads!

The nightmare scenario unfolds after she and Chesney take a trip to Llandudno in Wales, where he seizes the opportunity to ask Gemma to marry him. However, while the pair are suspended high above the ground taking a ride in a cable car, Ches pops the question – and Gemma starts popping out babies!

“Ches decides that it’s the perfect time to propose, and Gemma is so excited that she ends up knocking the engagement ring over the side of the cable car,” despairs actress DollyRose Campbell, who plays Gemma. “The pair of them are trying to spot the ring down on the ground while the cable car is making its descent, and Gemma’s waters break!

“Chesney panics and hits the emergency handbrake, although it’s the worst thing he could have done, as they can’t get back down to the ground,” adds the star. “Gemma has had scares before, but this is the real deal – her babies are coming!”

It’s the last situation Gemma would have wanted to find herself in so close to her due date. And with doctors having previously advised that a planned caesarean is the safest practice in the event of a multiple birth, this was not the way that scared first-time mum Gemma wanted them to enter the world…

The growing press attention surrounding her far-fromaverage pregnancy is what drives Gemma and Chesney to swap the Street for North Wales – after they read a magazine article making him out to be a love rat! Gemma’s meddling-mum-turned-prexpert Bernie has painted

Ches out to be a cheat, and he and Gemma are at the end of their tether.

“The added strain of having Bernie there with her dodgy dealings is really heaping pressure on Gemma, and it’s a lot to cope with,” explains Dolly-rose. “Bernie means well, her heart is in the right place, and she wants to make up for not being around in the past – but she just causes Gemma more problems!”

Meanwhile, Ches and Gemma continue to dance around the fact that they’re about to become parents to four babies, while not being honest about their feelings for one another. However, with thoughts of his ex Sinead’s untimely death weighing heavily upon him, Chesney realises life is too short – and confides in Fiz that he wants to make a go of it with Gemma. But does his babymummy feel the same way?

“Gemma and Ches have real feelings for each other, yet it’s overwhelming for them and they are a bit hesitant to go for it, as neither is sure how the other one feels,” reveals Dolly-rose. “They don’t want each other to think that they’re getting back together just because of the babies, and not through genuine love.”

After deciding to take the plunge, Ches asks Fiz to babysit while he invites Gemma to Speed Daal to discuss their future. However, when Gemma begins to feel twinges in her belly, the pair end up in hospital again thanks to another false alarm – forcing Chesney to postpone his big romantic gesture to the following day.

Gemma – who is sick of the journalists camped outside her house – then suggests a trip away from the cobbles, and Chesney spies a second chance to sweep her off her feet. His grand plan has Gemma floating on air, all right – but not quite in the way Chesney had hoped!

“Gemma thinks it’s a lovely idea to head to the seaside before the babies come, and she also wants to escape all the hassle on the Street,” says Dolly-rose. “However, bearing in mind that the last day out they went on together Gemma got stuck in a turnstile, she and Chesney should probably be staying a bit closer to home!

“A lovely moment turns into a comedy of errors!”
