Bernie attacks paedophile Kel

PAUL’S HORRIFIED MUM HAS HER REVENGE...

- Kate White

Violence erupts at No 5 this week, when Bernie comes face to face with her paedophile ex-partner Kel.

Hearing the horrific truth about how her former boyfriend groomed and raped her son Paul, Bernie reports him to the police. But after the authorities conclude their questions, Kel is released, and heads back to the Street, where he finds Bernie and issues her with sinister threats. However, Kel can’t terrorise Bernie – who has finally seen him for who he is – and her reaction leaves cornered Kel terrified…

“Bernie’s an awful mum, but she does love her children and this revelation has broken her heart,” explains our Corrie spy. “She blames herself for not realising, and hates Kel for what he did. He might think he can intimidate her, yet his threats are no match for her maternal fury. Bernie goes beserk!”

At the beginning of the week, the family is still trying to get its head around what Paul has told them about his traumatic past. Gemma also has to tell Chesney that a dangerous paedophile has been spending time with Joseph. But it’s only when Bernie surprises everyone by announcing she’s been to the police herself to report Kel for sexual abuse, that Paul realises he will be forced to relive his nightmare. It’s while Paul is at the police station giving his statement, Kel forces his way into No 5 and tries to take Bernie hostage. He tells her that she’s going to pay for what she’s done, but Bernie isn’t going to let him get one over on her. When Paul returns to the house, he and Gemma discover their mum in peril and fight their way in to release her. Once there is strength in numbers, Bernie launches a vicious attack towards Kel and has to be held back by Paul.

“What Paul has learned is that violence won’t put this right – Kel must be investigated and taken to court,” says our mole. “It means a lot to him to see his mum so fired up and desperate to defend him, but this isn’t the way. Only when

Kel might think he can threaten Bernie, but he is no match for her…”

Kel is behind bars and no longer a danger to other children will Paul feel that justice has been done.”

Following Kel’s arrest, Billy implores nervous Paul to go to speak to a counsellor. He believes that sitting down with a trained therapist at a men’s abuse charity will help Paul to start processing what happened and look to the future. Although he’s worried about the session, Paul feels lighter after confiding in counsellor Andy, and ready to give the police the statement they need to start proceedings against Kel. Can Bernie keep her promise to be a better mum in the face of her son’s bravery?
