Nick & Sarah face a rebellion
CAN NICK AND SARAH AGREE ON PLANS FOR THEIR NEW BUSINESS?
Factory bosses Nick and Sarah have a rebellion on their hands this week, when their workforce threatens to strike over their future plans!
With the reopening of the factory just weeks away, Nick realises there’s much more money in packing and distribution than there is in manufacturing. But when he reveals his plans to his staff, they’re furious – and worse still, Sarah’s on their side…
“You can hardly blame the workers for being upset – they’ve had enough upheaval to contend with over the past year,” our
Corrie spy reminds us. “It was Carla’s plans to cut costs that inadvertently led to the factory roof collapse in the first place! Nick’s staff just want to be back in the factory where they belong, getting paid to do the job they’re trained for.”
Nick’s certain that his plan is the only way Underworld can start turning a profit again – but with his workers on strike, that will be a tall order! Keen to talk them round, Nick reminds them that they are shareholders in the factory, so a walkout will harm them just as much as it harms the management.
But Sarah has a brainwave that could appease all. Having overheard Carla discussing plans she has for Sinead’s beard-oil business, Sarah is struck with an idea of her own – and announces to her colleagues that she thinks Underworld should make bespoke underwear to sell directly to the public!
“Sarah figures there’s more money to be made by cutting out the middle man,” says our sneak. “Plus, this allows the machinists to come up with unique designs that she reckons will be a winner with the customers. And the staff are on board with this suggestion straight away!”
Better still, Nick is also impressed with his sister’s proposition, and agrees to give it a go! So will Sarah’s idea turn the company back into the thriving business it used to be? And what will the factory’s real owner, Gary Windass, have to say when he finds out about Nick and Sarah’s plans?
