Roy is ostracised by Nina

AS RICHARD PASSES AWAY WHILE ROY’S DISTRACTED, NINA HOLDS HER UNCLE RESPONSIBLE…

- Allison Jones

There’s an awful shock in store for Roy this week, as his brother Richard falls and dies while alone – after Roy had promised to be by his side.

At the start of the week, the recently reunited siblings enjoy listening to a Weatherfield footy match on the radio together, and Roy promises Richard’s daughter Nina that he’ll wait in with Richard the next day, when his new carer is due to arrive.

Nina heads off to college, reassured in the knowledge that her dad is in safe hands. However, after a panicked call from Aggy, during which she reports a leaking freezer at the café, Roy has to leave Richard on his own – and when his new carer fails to show, a tragic series of events unfolds…

“This is such a heartbreaking situation,” sighs our Corrie spy. “Roy has every intention not to leave sick Richard’s side till his carer turns up – but Richard insists that Roy should go to the café when Aggy calls him, assuring him that he’ll be fine.

“Roy rings Richard to check on him as soon as he gets back to the cobbles, and again his brother is quick to brush off any concern – even though his carer is a no-show. But after he ends this call, Richard loses his balance and falls.”

As he answers a later call from Roy, Richard doesn’t want to worry him and pretends all is well. But when Roy at last returns to Richard’s flat, he’s aghast to discover his brother has passed out. He phones an ambulance immediately – but by the time it arrives, it’s already too late for poor Richard…

“The paramedics are unable to revive him – and Roy can

only watch in horror,” shares our sneak. “And to make matters worse, just as they’re pronouncing Richard dead, Nina comes home from college. Richard was very ill, and didn’t have long left to live – however, the shock of his sudden passing knocks both Roy and Nina for six.”

As the grief kicks in, Roy insists that Nina should stay with him on Coronation

Street. But it’s while she’s at the flat he shares with Carla, that Carla accidentally reveals to Nina that Roy had left Richard to return to the café when he fell. Nina can’t believe what she’s hearing – and her furious response leaves Roy completely heartbroken.

“Nina lays into Roy, and she makes her feelings shockingly clear,” wails our snitch. “Laying the blame for her dad’s death at Roy’s door, and declaring that she will never forgive him, Nina packs her bags and storms out of the flat. It’s a huge blow for Roy, and he’s crushed…”

Refusing to abandon his niece, Roy returns to Richard’s flat in the hope of talking Nina round. He arrives at the same time as the landlord, who is demanding unpaid rent. Nina doesn’t want to answer the door to either of them – so Roy has to return the next day with Carla as back-up, desperate to get through to Nina. So as he proceeds to share memories of his lonely childhood through the letterbox, will Nina soften?
