David reels as Maya leaves a baby on their doorstep...
It will be an unforgettable Christmas Day for Jacob and David this year, as Maya Stepney delivers a shock gift – a baby!
Jacob is stunned when he opens the door to discover a newborn child on the doorstep and a note from Maya, implying that he’s the father. Viewers know that wicked Maya was heavily pregnant when she was released from prison a few weeks ago, but Jacob had no idea. So, the whole family is left reeling as they realise that this baby could belong to the traumatised teen.
“The baby is in a brand-new car seat, a brand-new baby grow, brand-new clothes and looks very healthy,” shares Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David. “The baby’s been well looked after and is obviously very young – only a few days or weeks old. It’s a very strange situation. At first they think it’s a prank, so David goes outside and has a look around. But no one comes out, so they’re left with this baby on the doorstep on Christmas morning!”
After the year they’ve had, David and Leyla dared to dream that things were getting better for Jacob, particularly now he’s back in the family fold. But if this baby really is his, it changes everything. However, despite the note from Maya, David wants to proceed cautiously and to arrange a DNA test before anything else.
“It’s a bombshell and you immediately think, ‘What would you do?’” muses Matthew. “Probably go to the police, and you would hand it over to them to look after. However, there is a little bit of a twist to the plot…”
The family immediately calls on Maya’s ex – and Leyla’s new love interest – Dr Cavanagh, to come and check the infant. But what happens next is dependent on the results of the paternity test.
“Dr Cavanagh is obviously their first port of call to come around and check the baby over, and the baby’s absolutely fine,” shares Matthew. “It gets more and more mysterious as the situation goes on.”
Not least because, according to Inside Soap’s calculations, Maya was still sleeping with David at the time the baby was conceived. Is there a paternity twist to come in this very disturbing tale?
