Will Charlie agree to divorce Tim?

SOAP STALWART SIAN REEVES REVEALS WHY SHE’S RIGHT AT HOME IN WEATHERFIELD…

- Allison Jones

Having already graced our screens with stints in Albert Square and the Dales, Sian Reeves made her Weatherfield debut at the end of last year – rocking up in Corrie as Charlie, the wife deluded Tim didn’t know he had.

While Tim was no doubt hoping he’d seen the last of Charlie, we’re delighted that she’s back this week (see p22), seemingly determined to make her reluctant hubby’s life hell! And as we sit down for a chat with Sian while her brazen alter ego finds her feet behind the Rovers bar, she admits that she’s feeling pretty comfortable herself…

It’s great to see you again, Sian! How’s Weatherfield treating you?

Well, I’ve watched Corrie since I was a little girl, so I was a bit emotional when I walked into the Rovers bar for the first time! There are so many memories from watching with my grandparents. I’ve had a very warm welcome!

How did the role come about?

I’ve been flirting with Corrie for a while, actually – I’ve always wanted to be in it! I got to the final screen test to play Sally’s sister Gina, and Sally Dynevor [Sally] and Michael Le Vell [Kevin] were so lovely, so when this part came up I was thrilled. I still get to work with Sally, and Joe Duttine [Tim] is such good fun, too.

What do you make of Charlie?

I think the most exciting thing that’s happened to her is one crazy weekend in Las Vegas when she got drunk with Tim and got married! Years later, she’s still an air hostess, and she hasn’t met anyone else. So when Tim shows up, she really thought he’d sought her out…

What are her intentions towards Tim now, do you reckon?

She’s a vulnerable person, and hasn’t been given much attention, so Tim’s sudden reappearance works in the opposite way to which he intended. He’s being nice because he wants Charlie to sign the divorce papers, but she thinks he’s being nice because he likes her.

So she’s angling for the two of them to get back together?

When Tim is so kind after she loses her job and gets evicted, it tells Charlie he must be in love with her! Then she gets a job in the Rovers, and everyone is so nice to her. It’s like a dream come true for her, so she thinks she and Tim should give their relationship another go. She has no idea Tim is married!

With Tim and Sally being such a popular pairing, how do you think Corrie viewers will respond to Charlie’s reappearance?

She’s not a bitch who’s trying to get money out of Tim – she’s a nice person who’s quite nervy because she’s lost her job. I think she’s quite endearing! Tim found her, not the other way around, and he’s the one who hasn’t come clean.

Who else would you like to work with while Charlie’s in Weatherfield?

I’d love to work with David Neilson [Roy] and Barbara Knox [Rita]! I’ve met William Roache [Ken], and I had a great scene with Bev Callard [Liz]. Being behind the bar of the Rovers is amazing – I’m very proud to be a little part of it!

So will Charlie be sticking around for the foreseeable?

She loves it in the Rovers! I think she has felt very welcome there. And she wants a future with Tim. She thinks she could make a life for herself in Weatherfield – which would be nice for me, too!
