Casualty Duffy moves into a home

HE MOVES WIFE DUFFY INTO A HOME…

- Sarah Ellis

Stressed Charlie makes a heartbreaking choice this week, as he moves his sick wife Duffy into a care home.

The nurse has been struggling to cope with looking after

Duffy since she was diagnosed with vascular dementia, and her condition has visibly worsened over the past couple of months. So, at the end of his tether, Charlie realises that the only option is for Duffy to get professional care…

“This is the last thing Charlie or Duffy wanted,” points out our Casualty insider. “Duffy took on some shifts in a care home a few months back, and she was appalled by the conditions there. She made it clear that she never wanted to end up somewhere like that.”

Charlie has tried his best to look after his wife in their own home, but even with the help of his fully trained workmates from the hospital, he’s finding it impossible to give her the attention she needs. And as Duffy’s behaviour grows more violent, and she verbally lashes out at him, Charlie realises that they can’t go on as they are.

So, after careful research, he finds her a care home with a five-star rating, which he hopes can cater to her needs. But as he helps her unpack in her new room, before leaving to go to his shift at the hospital, has Charlie made the right choice?

“Charlie feels incredibly guilty as he walks away from Duffy,” sighs our sneak. “He spends all day calling to check up on her, and it’s clear that his decision is tearing him apart.”

Robyn assures Charlie he’s done what he had to do, but Charlie remains bereft. So as he visits his wife after his shift, what state will he find her in?
