Couch POTATO
Actress Laura Checkley tells us her dream viewing…
I’ve started watching Succession because everyone has been going on about it – and it’s blowing my tiny mind, actually! I do like my American dramas – Big Little Lies was incredible, and it’s nice to have a female-strong cast. I’ve always thought Laura Dern is brilliant, but she was the standout in that show.
There are two comedies I love at the moment
– one is Stath
Lets Flats on Channel 4. I used to gig with Natasia Demetriou [Sophie], so I know a few of those guys. And I loved Ghosts – it’s brilliant to see real character-driven comedy.
I can happily watch Bridesmaids any time,
but my favourite film has got to be
Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. It’s got a bit of nostalgia to it for me – it just reminds me of being younger and discovering this beautiful, funny lady for the first time.
Growing up, I was obsessed with
Girls On Top,
starring Ruby Wax, Tracey Ullman, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. I couldn’t have been more than about five years old when I saw it, and my mum said she always found it quite strange that I was so glued to the telly watching it! I used to do impressions of Ruby Wax.
If I could play any part, the biggie would be Linda La Hughes in
Gimme Gimme Gimme. Who wouldn’t want a shot at that? I’d never do it as well as Kathy Burke, but I’d pop the wig on and have a go just to deliver a few of those lines!
