Maria cheats with Ali – as Gary prepares to propose to her!

Grieving Maria cheats on Gary with ex Ali this week, unaware that her boyfriend is about to propose.
Following their miscarriage, both Maria and Gary are struggling to process their loss, and Maria isn’t sure that their relationship can survive it. Meanwhile, Gary’s determined to prove that he wants Maria for her, not just because they were going to have a child together, so begins organising a romantic surprise proposal. However, his sneaking about convinces Maria that he’s lying to her again, and soon she lets handsome Ali comfort her.
“It’s no wonder that Maria thinks Gary is up to no good – he usually is!” muses our Weatherfield spy. “It’s a shame that this time he’s actually trying to do the right thing. He believes that proposing will show Maria that she means the world to him, even if neither of them feels 100 per cent comfortable in their relationship. Unfortunately for Gary, his past mistakes provoke Maria into making her own bad decisions.”
Ali has been waiting for Gary to mess things up with Maria for a while now. He tries to be there for his old flame when he spies her handing out leaflets about the measles vaccine to ensure parents get their children immunised. Although he’s proud of her for doing something positive, Ali fears Maria isn’t giving herself space to grieve for the child she’s lost. So as he finds her in a bad state in the barber shop, he’s quick to comfort her.
It doesn’t take long for the former couple to start confiding in each other. Maria shares her fears about Gary, and confesses she’s not sure she can trust the man she’s living and sleeping with. Ali hears her out, and then makes it clear she has a choice – he loves her and never stopped wanting to be with her. As the romantic declaration sinks in, Maria doesn’t resist when Ali moves in to kiss her…
Reeling from the shock passion, Maria decides the time has come to resolve her situation with Gary and confront him. But she isn’t ready for what Gary’s about to tell her.
“It’s a massive shock – Gary’s all set to propose to her!” gasps our insider. “He did nothing wrong, and he can prove it with an engagement ring. All the shady behaviour was him getting Ike and Ryan to help him smuggle the special piece of jewellery before he presented it to Maria! She’s knocked for six.”
However, while Maria’s left reeling, oblivious Ali remains convinced that he’s won back the woman he loves. Is Maria going to break his heart again by choosing Gary?
