David crashes his car into a skip
HE’S FLOORED BY A HORROR CRASH AND DEVASTATING NEWS…
There’s a new nightmare for the Platt family this week, when David crashes his car with the kids in the back seat!
The troubled dad is running himself ragged by travelling between his Manchester home and the Leeds hospital where wife Shona is recovering. After a long and frustrating day at the clinic, drained David gets behind the wheel – a move he lives to regret when he suddenly crashes!
“Poor David is running on empty – he can’t keep his eyes open and crashes into a skip!” says our Weatherfield insider. “Thank God, nobody is hurt, but Max and Lily are really shaken. The car is a write-off, so this has to be a big wakeup call for David. He’s lucky they all came out of this alive!”
While David’s very grateful it wasn’t worse, he’s gutted that he no longer has a car. It means that instead of driving the long journey to see Shona, he will now have to take public transport. The struggling husband won’t let it put him off, though, and he makes his way to Leeds by train the next day. The trouble is that when he gets there, wife Shona has told her care team that she doesn’t want to see him.
“It’s almost more than David can bear – this is such a cruel irony when they love each other so much,” whispers our spy. “If only Shona could remember that they are meant to be together, David could cope with her recovery better. But to drag himself miles across the country to see her, only to be rejected, feels awful. David is at his wits’ end…”
When he returns to the Street, David goes to Victoria Garden to take a minute to calm down. It’s there that

good friend Maria finds him, and offers him a shoulder to cry on. She’s compassionate as David pours out his woes, and tells her that crashing his car has made a bad situation intolerable. Determined to do some good after all the bad that’s befallen the residents of Coronation Street, Maria hands him the keys to her car and tells David that it’s all his. There’s no doubt that Maria’s kind gesture will make David’s life a lot easier. But there’s the small matter of Shona wanting nothing to do with him. How long will it take before she recalls that David is the man she loves?
