Ruby saves Harmony?

- Sarah Ellis

Paramedic Ruby faces a race against time to save her baby niece Harmony this week, after the tiny girl falls ill with suspected meningitis.

Worse still, Harmony’s mum Violette – who’s a recovering drug addict – has fallen off the wagon and taken heroin! Terrified that social services will find out and take her daughter away, Violette refuses to bring her baby into the ED – resulting in a horrifying situation for poor Ruby…

“Ruby feared something like this could happen,” sighs our Casualty spy. “She’s spent years watching her sister succumb to her addiction, but Violette insisted she’d got her act together. Ruby naively thought Harmony would be enough to make Violette realise that she had to kick the habit for good.”

To Violette’s credit, she’s been doing all she can to get clean. She has moved in with Ruby and Robyn, and vowed to prioritise Harmony. Yet it seems she’s just not strong enough to resist temptation…

After Violette’s ex Arlo calls in and offers her a hit, her resolve is tested – and she caves. When Violette comes round later and realises what’s happened, she is quick to kick Arlo out of the house – but by that point, she’s too drugged-up to look after her poorly daughter.

Meanwhile, a concerned neighbour calls Robyn and reveals she saw a dodgylooking man emerging from her house! Robyn relays the news to Ruby, who worries that Violette has taken drugs again. And her fears are confirmed when she calls her sister…

“Initially Violette denies it, but Ruby soon twigs what’s happened,” says our mole. “Violette is panicked about listless and unresponsive

Harmony, and Ruby instructs her to bring

the child straight to hospital. However, Violette refuses – she knows the doctors will realise she’s been taking drugs, and deem her an unfit mother.”

Fearing for her niece’s safety, Ruby asks paediatric doctor Will to talk with

Violette over the phone, to see if he can get to the bottom of Harmony’s symptoms. After a few questions, the medic concludes that the little’un has a dangerous form of meningitis – which could turn out to be fatal if she’s not treated soon!

So as Ruby races home to fetch Harmony and bring her into the hospital, will she get to the baby in time?
