“James is fearful of what others might know…”

- Alice Penwill

As the day of Jesse’s funeral arrives this week, James’ guilt over his death is getting the better of him. However, to make matters worse, James receives an anonymous note – saying ‘I know you shot Mercedes’!

“It’s funny, as by this point James actually wants to hand himself in,” says Gregory Finnegan, who plays guiltridden James. “But when he discovers the note and realises that somebody else knows, the power is taken out of his hands. James is tremendously fearful of what others might know.”

Yet James isn’t the only one to receive a letter – shooter number two, Grace, also gets a note through the door. But who is behind the threats?

“Grace isn’t going to rest until she knows who it is,” Gregory tells us. “She’s convinced it’s either Sylver or John Paul, so she and James go to work to find out which of the two of them it might be.”

Prior to discovering the note, James is struggling more than ever, especially on the day of Jesse’s funeral.

“James tends to hit the bottle in times of strife, and this one is no different,” explains Gregory. “He’s not sleeping well and he’s drinking too much. James is trying to block it all out and pretend it never happened.”

Yet partner in crime Grace persuades James to attend Jesse’s service in order to avoid arousing suspicion. But as they wait for the hearse, Mercedes tells James that she knows his secret. Does Mercy know it was James who shot her, though? Or is she talking about something else entirely?

“For a moment, James is convinced that the game is completely up,” shares Gregory. “And in some way that wouldn’t be a bad thing – it might end all of this…”

Afterwards, during Jesse’s wake, James seems unable to handle the guilt any more – and to Grace’s horror, he totally falls apart!

“Courtney delivers a very touching eulogy about her late husband Jesse,” explains Gregory. “For James, the guilt is just too much to bear, and he ends up shouting out a few things that could implicate him in Jesse’s death.”

It’s when James returns home that he finds the ominous note, but is he really rumbled? Gregory admits that if James’ time as a free man is up, then his alter ego is ready to face the consequences.

“I know James has been down this road several times,” begins the star. “But if I were watching the show, I’d be prepared for him to take drastic action – and that could be handing himself in…”

“Be prepared for James to take drastic action…”
