James is dumped – and blames Ed

HAS ED’S ATTITUDE RUINED JAMES’ CHANCE OF LOVE?

- Kate White

There’s heartbreak for James this week, when his boyfriend Danny finishes things between them. Having finally come out to dad Ed, James believes that he and Danny now have the chance to enjoy a relationship. But he’s wrong. Instead, when Danny arrives for their date, he tells James that they can’t be together any more and that it’s over. So what’s prompted this sudden change of heart?

“James is convinced that this is all down to his dad,” reveals our Corrie insider. “His reaction last week told James everything he needed to know – and he’s upset and hurt by Ed’s attitude. And now Danny is breaking up with him, he can’t believe that Ed didn’t have a hand in that, especially given that he and his dad were mates. He’s absolutely devastated and disappointed.”

There’s no doubt that Ed has failed to give his son the support he deserves at such a big moment. And Ed’s accusations that Danny has been corrupting his son certainly haven’t helped matters. However, despite his own prejudice, Ed’s real concern is how James might be treated by the football fans who line Weatherfield County’s stands each match. So, having opened up to Danny about James, and what coming out could mean for his career, Ed seems to have given his son’s boyfriend food for thought…

“The reality right now is that James isn’t ready to come out publicly and live openly as a gay man,” explains our spy.

“If Danny were to stay with him, they would still be sneaking around – and that’s a lot to ask of someone.

When they split, Danny reasons that he can’t go back in the closet and won’t live a lie. James might be angry with Ed, but Danny’s making him confront some home truths about his life choices.”

Will this result in James and Ed’s rift deepening, or can the Baileys stand united?
