THE HIGHLIGHTS
SCENIC LAKE COMO
Lake Como is the third-largest lake in Italy and one of the deepest in Europe – and on this trip you’ll be taken to see its scenic highlights on a private tour. It’s surrounded by opulent villas, including one owned by George Clooney, and many are open to the public, where you can also wander around their landscaped gardens. There will also be an opportunity to see some of the area’s most delightful villages, including Bellagio, where you will travel on a half-day cruise.
ST MORITZ AND THE BERNINA RAILWAY
Synonymous with style, elegance and sophistication, St Moritz is undoubtedly Switzerland’s premier Alpine resort, loved by celebrities and royals alike. You’ll travel there on the famous Bernina Railway, a Unesco-listed railway that will take you through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world. STAYING IN CADENABBIA The small hamlet has been a popular health resort with Brits since Victorian times – even Queen Victoria herself once chose to holiday there. Mary Shelley wrote about Cadenabbia in the 1840s and, a few years later, Giuseppe Verdi composed part of La Traviata in Villa Margherita, now a private residence.
YOUR ELEGANT HOTEL
The Hotel Britannia Excelsior is in a beautiful location just across the road from Lake Como. There are two pools and plenty of sunloungers on which to relax – one pool is a lido on the lake itself and the other has fabulous views over to Bellagio, as well as a great bar for sunset drinks. Rooms are in a traditional Italian style with antique furniture, some with lake views and balconies.
